✨Mid May Mêlée✨

What a brilliant afternoon on the pistes for our first melee tournament of the year on Saturday☀️🎯

The sun was shining, the atmosphere was buzzing, and with teams changing every single round, the games were as unpredictable as they were fun.

We saw some fantastic play on the pistes with some great results ☺️

The biggest round of applause goes to Gill, who took home the top spot! What makes it even more impressive is that this was only her second tournament ever.

To come away with the win so early in her petanque journey is absolutely brilliant—huge congratulations, Gill! 🏆🎉

As her prize, she won a Gibraltar Petanque Association Mug as well as a Meal for Two from O'Reilly's Marina Bar as well as a £10 voucher from El Kasbah as a treat for winning the competition.

Following the success of last Friday’s event, we thought it would be a good idea to share our opening hours for anyone interested in coming down to try Pétanque 🎯😊

We’ve put together a quick poster with our usual opening hours, including the Saturdays we open up when there’s a tournament or event on.

Whether you’re a regular player or completely new to the game, everyone is welcome 👍

It was such an enjoyable evening with our members showing everyone how to play especially in the sunshine that came with it.

Everyone got a little certificate and a pen at the end and it was great to see all the smiling faces enjoying the game of Petanque 😊

Whether you’ve never picked up a boule before or you’ve played a few times, this is all about having a go, meeting new people, and enjoying the evening. No pressure, just good vibes (and maybe a bit of friendly rivalry 😄).

🏆 President’s Cup 2026 – Tournament Round-Up 🏆

The Gibraltar Petanque Association’s President’s Cup 2026 brought together 14 players for a full day of competitive pétanque, played across three pitches in a two-group format. With plenty of close games, high-quality shooting, and tactical play, it proved to be one of the most engaging editions of the competition.

Group 1

Group 1 featured four strong teams and produced some very competitive matches throughout the round-robin stage.

Bryan & Albert (Team B) set the tone early, starting with a solid 13–7 win over Chris & Annette (Team A). They continued their momentum with a convincing 13–6 victory against Pat & Gill (Team D), before sealing top spot in the group with an emphatic 13–4 win over Richard & Peter (Team C).

Richard & Peter (Team C) showed resilience across their matches, picking up a 13–7 win against Pat & Gill (Team D) and narrowly edging Chris & Annette (Team A) 13–11 in a tightly contested game.

Chris & Annette (Team A) were involved in some of the closest matches of the group, losing 13–11 to both Team C and Team D, showing how competitive the group was from top to bottom.

Despite not registering a win in the first two games, Pat & Gill (Team D) pushed their opponents hard, particularly in their narrow 13–11 victory over Team A, proving they were never far off the pace.

Group 2

Group 2, consisting of three teams, delivered equally exciting encounters with every game closely fought.

Mario & Emily (Team E) opened strongly with a 13–6 win over Mandy & Monty (Team F). They then secured their place in the final with a thrilling 13–12 victory against Graham & Nina (Team G) — one of the matches of the day.

Graham & Nina (Team G) bounced back from that narrow defeat to take a 13–10 win over Mandy & Monty (Team F), ensuring a competitive finish to the group standings.

Mandy & Monty (Team F) showed great determination throughout, staying competitive in each of their matches despite falling just short.

The Final

The final saw the unbeaten Group 1 winners Bryan & Albert (Team B) take on the in-form Mario & Emily (Team E)

It was a high-quality and closely fought contest, with both teams trading ends and demonstrating excellent tactical play. However, Bryan & Albert’s consistency and experience proved decisive as they edged the final 13–10, securing the President’s Cup 2026 title

The Gibraltar Petanque Association invites you down to Giralda Gardens this morning for one of our biggest events of the year.

Come and watch some fantastic pétanque, enjoy the atmosphere, and see the competition unfold as players go head-to-head for the President’s Cup.
