Become Part of the Game – Start Your Refereeing Journey
Have you ever thought about becoming a football referee?
Refereeing is an exciting way to stay involved in football, develop confidence and leadership skills, make new friends, and even build a future career in the game. With football continuing to grow in Gibraltar, we are looking for young people who are passionate about the game and interested in becoming the next generation of referees.
The current minimum age to officially referee is 14 years old. However, due to growing interest from younger players, we are now encouraging interested 13-year-olds to register their interest early and begin learning about refereeing.
Young referees would begin officiating in the U8 age category and gradually progress through the age groups as they gain experience and confidence.
Importantly, you can continue to play football while also being a referee. You simply would not referee in the same competition in which you play.
As part of your development, referees are expected to attend monthly seminars and training sessions designed to support learning, confidence, fitness, decision-making, and progression within refereeing.
Whether you want to referee for fun, earn extra income, stay involved in football, or pursue a long-term career in the game, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
If you are interested, please complete the survey below. Anyone interested can also inform their club directly or contact the Referee Manager by emailing:

We are appalled by the comments made during the live broadcast of the Gibraltar Football League fixture played between Europa FC and Mons Calpe SC on the 25 April 2026.
It is shameful that such despicable and abhorrent language be used to imply bias from match officials in Gibraltar.
The Gibraltar Referees’ Association is supporting Seth and his family at this time following the effect of the harmful language used by the commentators during this fixture.
Behaviour of this nature is wholly unacceptable and harmful to the credibility of Gibraltar football as a whole. We are determined to tackle this issue and work with the Gibraltar Football Association to ensure that this type of conduct is never again displayed in Gibraltar football.

The ball is kicked by a Team A player and is going towards a Team B player when it deflects off the referee and leaves the field of play by the touchline without touching any other player.
What is the correct decision?
