MoHERST Tripartite Funds – MoHERST Programme Portfolio 2026

MoHERST has established three complementary funding mechanisms that form an integrated financing ecosystem, supporting student access, institutional strengthening, and research commercialisation:

1. Student Revolving Loan Scheme (SRLS):
• Provides affordable loans to Gambian students pursuing tertiary education.
• Reduces financial barriers, with a focus on disadvantaged students, particularly females.
• Uses a revolving fund mechanism to ensure sustainability.

2. Tertiary and Higher Education Trust Fund (THET):
• Supports infrastructure development, faculty capacity building, and research initiatives.
• Strengthens tertiary institutions and enhances student welfare and institutional quality.

3. National Research and Innovation Fund (NRIF):
• Catalyses knowledge-driven development through competitive grants.
• Supports basic research, applied innovation, youth innovation challenges, partnership grants, and capacity strengthening.
• Passed into law in 2025 and managed by MoHERST with multi-stakeholder board oversight.

The presentation will outline capitalisation needs, governance arrangements, and opportunities for partner contributions, providing avenues for strategic collaboration and sustainable investment in higher education and research.
