In a separate development earlier today, the National Sports Council convened a meeting with representatives of Serrekunda West, Serrekunda East, Serrekunda Central, and Bakau Sports Committees to discuss preparations for the official opening of the newly developed sports facility at Serrekunda Central, commonly known as Mboyo Field.

The facility, which features a first-class football pitch, pavilion, basketball court, and volleyball court, was developed with the support of the Government of The Gambia through the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for 21st June 2026 and is expected to be graced by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of The Gambia.

The meeting focused on how the four zones can work together to ensure a successful event. Discussions also included exhibition matches and other sporting activities that will showcase the talents of young athletes from the participating zones.

SWESO commends the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Council for this important investment in sports development and looks forward to contributing to a memorable and successful opening ceremony.

This morning, our Co-opted Executive Member, Pa Niawood Njie, completed the 14-Day Seminar on Sports Facilities Maintenance and Sports Events Management held in Beijing, China.

While work continues on the pavilion renovation projects, the Serrekunda West Sports Organisation (SWESO) Executive is also working tirelessly to improve the condition of the football pitch ahead of Nawettan 2026. ⚽🌱

Understanding that the pitch itself is the heart of the game, Exco has successfully fixed the water system through the purchase and installation of new pressure pumps and sprinklers from Swegam. Watering of the field is now ongoing day and night as efforts intensify to restore the quality of the Bahama grass.

In addition, experts in Bahama management are currently working closely with hired workers to remove unwanted grass affecting the playing surface, ensuring that the pitch returns to the standard needed for quality football.

As Nawettan approaches in the coming months, SWESO remains committed not only to infrastructure development through pavilion renovations, but also to providing players with a better and safer playing surface to showcase their talents.

The work continues, and together we are building a better Serrekunda West Mini Stadium for everyone. πŸ’ͺ🏽🏟️

Another major step forward for Serrekunda West. πŸŸοΈπŸ‘πŸ½

Following the successful completion and handover of the first pavilion renovation project, the SWESO Executive Committee on Saturday also reached an agreement with Atta Kandong Construction Company for the completion of the second pavilion at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium.

After reviewing the BOQs, Exco once again awarded the project to Atta Kandong Construction Company based on the quality, commitment, and success demonstrated in the first project.

The second pavilion completion project is valued at D800,000, with an initial payment of D600,000 already handed over for work to officially begin, while the remaining D200,000 will be paid during the later phase of the project.

This marks another huge milestone achievement for SWESO. In less than one year, the current Executive has successfully renovated the middle pavilion roof, completed the left-side pavilion, and is now moving towards the completion of the right-side pavilion.

SWESO extends sincere appreciation to all stakeholders, football fans, teams, players, and supporters whose continuous support and belief make these developments possible. Together, we continue to build a better Serrekunda West.

SWESO proudly congratulates our Co-opted Executive Member and Head of Media Operations, Sainabou Marenah, on completing the five-day Sports Administrators Course organised by the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) in collaboration with the Sports Journalists’ Association of The Gambia (SJAG).

The course focused on key areas, including Olympic matters, sports governance, sports science, and institutional management, providing participants with valuable knowledge to strengthen sports administration in The Gambia.

As a zone, we are especially proud to see women like Sainabou continue to break barriers and excel in sports leadership and administration, a field traditionally dominated by men.
