Athens 1991 - a return to the roots. 🇬🇷✨

With Athens 1991, the Mediterranean Games returned to Greece 🇬🇷, the cradle of Olympism, forty years after Alexandria 1951 🇪🇬. This edition was more than a sporting event — it was a symbolic reunion with the historical origins of the Mediterranean Movement. 🌍🤝

Athens also held a special meaning for the Games, as the city where the ICMG was officially founded in 1961. 🏛️

Latakia 1987 — a milestone of maturity and legacy. 🇸🇾✨

With Latakia 1987, the Mediterranean Games reached a symbolic milestone as the 10th edition of the event, confirming the full maturity of the Mediterranean sporting movement nearly four decades after Alexandria 1951 🇪🇬. 🌍🤝

For the first time, Syria 🇸🇾 hosted the Games, strengthening the eastern dimension of the Mediterranean Movement and expanding its regional influence.

This edition also left a lasting legacy through the construction of the Latakia Sports City, a major sports complex built especially for the Games and designed to serve future generations of athletes. 🏟️

On the field of play, Latakia 1987 was remembered for strong performances from Italy 🇮🇹, Morocco 🇲🇦, and the host nation Syria 🇸🇾. 🏅
