🏺oops something interesting there out of nowhere. an Pointed Amphora... only the body and the bottom part of this, somewhere here there are other remains of pottery.... it needs searching.
📜Little history:
The pointed amphora was the preeminent type of large commercial vessel in antiquity and was widely used for the storage and sea transport of products.
Sharp-bottomed amphorae are already known from the Late Bronze Age (15th century BC) in Syro-Palestine. In Greece they start to be manufactured in the 7th century. e.g. possibly under the influence of Phoenician or Egyptian traders. This particular amphora is probably of Thasian origin and dates to the 4th century. e.g.
Due to their special shape, these vessels were easily stored in an upright position immersed in sand or some similar material. In this way, the safe transport of the products was possible.
The narrow neck was closed with a cork, wax or other type of stopper, while the handles often bore imprints of seals indicating the amphora's capacity and provenance. The narrow base also served as a third handle when carrying the vessel.
