📸 When Greece face Italy tonight at Pankritio, they'll have the chance to end a streak that has lasted more than half a century.

The one & only time the Ethniki defeated the Azzurri was on 4th March 1972, when Greece recorded a 2-1 victory at the old Karaiskakis stadium, with Antonis Antoniadis & Spyros Pomonis scoring a goal apiece.

Since then, the two nations have met on numerous occasions, but Greece have been unable to claim another win.

Of course, context matters. Italy are preparing their next generation, calling up U21 players & will want to make an impression ahead of the future.

Even so, a victory would still be a notable achievement for Ivan Jovanovic & for Greece.

Greece can only beat the team put in front of them, & ending a 54 year wait against one of world football's most successful nations would be a statistic worth remembering.
