Meet the Madeira Rockfish (Scorpaena maderensis)
Masters of camouflage, these ambush predators can sit perfectly still among the rocks, becoming almost invisible until it's time to strike. It's favorite trick? Convincing divers it's just another rock... until it moves👀
Have you ever spotted one before it spotted you?

Not all yellow sponges are the same…
This is the Antlers Sponge Coral (Axinella polypoides), often mistaken for the Yellow Tube Sponge from a few posts ago...but notice the difference: instead of smooth tubes, it grows in branching, antler-like shapes.
And who’s stealing the spotlight? A little baby lionfish, aligning itself perfectly in front of the antlers 💛

Say hello to the Grouper, often the star of our dives! These robust predators are masters of stealth: they hide among rocks and suck in prey whole with a powerful suction‑feeding strike instead of chasing it down. 💨🐠
Many species can change colour to blend with their surroundings, helping them ambush prey and stay camouflaged. 🌈

Meet the Yellow Tube Sponge, Aplysina aerophoba 💛. Its name in Greek means “afraid of air,” a nod to the sponge’s unique chemistry that reacts when exposed to air, turning it a dark blue!
These sponges are important for the ecosystem, filtering water and helping protect our reefs.
