We introduce this movement at the first level of our Character Dance program at the Bolshoi Academy. Found in various folk dance traditions, it apparently takes its name from the French "tortiller," meaning "to twist" or "to turn." For us, Character Dance is where folk tradition meets ballet precision, adding a unique character to stage performance! There are so many ways you can adapt it for your students from its simplest forms to the most challenging ones! This is the end result with the students from Level 2. You can see it is not easy even for them but they’ve come a very long way already and we are so proud of them!
