What happens when we allow practice to move between sensing, movement and stillness, rather than treating them as separate things?

Sensing into Stillness is a three-hour practice journey designed to give us enough time to explore that question without rushing.

We'll begin with Somatic Yoga, using movement as a way of noticing and exploring. From there, we'll move through a short Mindful Flow and into more intuitive, self-directed movement. Gradually we will move toward the quieter, longer-held shapes of Yin Yoga.

The intention isn't to move from "active" to "passive". It's to explore how attention changes as the quality of movement changes — and what becomes available when we give ourselves enough time to sense.

We often enter movement practice already knowing what comes next.
A sequence. A posture. A direction.
We go ahead and execute it in the exact same way, each time, because that is how it's done. But what changes when we don't begin with the movement?
When we begin with sensing?

The weight of the body against the floor. The movement of breath. Areas that feel available and areas that don't. The impulse to move—or perhaps the impulse to remain where we are for a little longer.

Sensing doesn't give us a perfect set of instructions it gives us information.
And movement can become a way of exploring and responding to that information rather than simply carrying out a predetermined shape.

This relationship between sensing, movement, awareness and rest sits at the heart of our upcoming Sensing into Stillness workshop in Berlin.

Building a practice means building a habit. It's hard to go from 0 to 100. Creating routines takes time an needs to allow room to wiggle. The first step is oftentimes the most difficult and, and that is showing up. The we can ask the question:

What would support me today?

Silent Practice offers a shared time and space, but leaves the practice itself in your hands. The intention isn't to practise perfectly or independently prove that you know what you're doing.

It's to begin developing the ability to show up, listen, choose and respond.

And, little by little, to build a relationship with practice that doesn't depend entirely on someone else telling you what comes next. Or reminding you to start.

What if consistency didn't mean doing the same thing every time?
Our bodies don't arrive at practice in the same state every day.

Energy changes. Capacity changes. Attention changes. What supports us changes too.

Silent Practice creates a regular space to notice those changes and decide how you want to respond.
You might move, stretch, breathe, rest, meditate or return to something familiar from another class.

The structure is simple:
show up → listen → choose → practise

The aim is to practise more consistently and create a habit.
It is also to develop greater confidence in recognising what you need and making your own choices.

What does your body need today?
It's a simple question, but not necessarily an easy one to answer.

When we practise in a class, someone else usually provides the structure. They decide what comes next, how long we stay and when we move on. There is value in that guidance and there is also value in occasionally removing it.

Silent Practice is an opportunity to listen first and choose from there.

Perhaps you move. Perhaps you stretch. Perhaps you practise something familiar from class. Perhaps you lie down and breathe for ten minutes. There isn't one correct answer.

Over time, this kind of practice can help us recognise our own signals more clearly, make choices with greater confidence and build habits that are realistic enough to return to.

Consistency doesn't necessarily come from doing the same practice every time. Sometimes it comes from learning how to keep showing up, even when what we need changes.

This weekend we have been exploring touch as a form of listening.

Not listening in order to immediately interpret or change what we find, but developing the capacity to notice. That quality extends far beyond massage.

Take it into movement, conversation, relationships, and the way we inhabit our own bodies.

When we encounter discomfort or tension, wanting to change it is understandable. But it doesn't have to be the only way we relate to the body.

Curiosity offers another starting point. It allows sensation to become information rather than immediately turning it into a problem.

That distinction appears throughout somatic practice, yoga and the way we approach bodywork at MALU holistics.

Take a moment today to notice one sensation without immediately trying to change it.

Massage is often taught through sequences: where the hands go and what they do next and for sure those skills matter.

But something else happens when we stop simply executing a movement and begin paying attention to the response beneath our hands. Suddenly technique becomes interaction.

This quality of presence is one of the foundations we'll explore during this week's Holistic Therapeutic Massage workshop.

There is a subtle difference between approaching someone with an answer and approaching them with attention. In bodywork, that distinction matters.

Knowledge and technique give us structure. But presence allows us to notice the person in front of us rather than only applying what we already know.

Perhaps this extends beyond massage too.
How often do we respond before we have really listened?

An invitation to notice this today — in touch, conversation or simply in the way you meet your own body.

Learning massage requires technique. But technique alone doesn't tell us everything.

The same movement can be experienced very differently depending on pace, pressure, timing, context and the person receiving it. Attention allows technique to become responsive.

This is one of the central threads running through our approach to Holistic Therapeutic Massage: developing practical skills while learning to listen through the hands.
