Coach Tom Jenkinson is opening the Norwegian Singles Project to Envol members.
"A little more detail on what I am actually setting up.
First, this is not simply another training plan.
The basic Norwegian Singles regime is not especially complicated: three standardized sub-threshold interval days each week, with easy aerobic work around them.
Keep the intensity controlled.
Make the sessions repeatable.
Stack consistent weeks.
What interests me, and hopefully some of you, is what happens when we take a group of amateur runners and swimrunners, commit properly to the regime, and start looking much more closely at the data.
The experiment is the regime. The project is what we learn from it.
We are building our own web platform specifically to analyse the training, and the athletes in the project will be central to shaping what we build.
The aim is to look beyond whether someone simply gets faster.
We want to explore questions such as:
• How does each athlete respond?
• How stable is the intensity?
• How does the relationship between pace, heart rate and power change?
• What happens across the different interval formats?
• Can we see fatigue, adaptation or a plateau appearing in the data before it becomes obvious to the athlete?
I am also increasingly interested in movement data.
Cadence and stride length may become part of the experiment as we develop the platform.
The repeatability of Norwegian Singles gives us something that normal run training rarely provides: a reasonably consistent metabolic and movement experiment, repeated week after week.
