Octopus eyes can act independently of one another, as each pupil is controlled by seven extraocular muscles, each controlled by its own nerve. They also possess short and long-term memory which enables them to remember people and various animals. After a few encounters with the same diver, this individual felt safe and allowed a closeup photo while resting in its lair.
