The last mission before the next one! We decided this time to paddle up to Meganisi island from Mikros Gialos beach in Lefkas. Our aim was to visit and explore two big sea caves that are located ιn the west side of Meganisi. On our way we had the chance to visit also other smaller sea caves along Lefkas coastline. Once we approach to Meganisi, we find and visit first Jiovani sea cave, the second biggest in the island. Paddling down to the south after a few miles we were in front of the most famous and biggest sea cave there, called Papanikolis sea cave. It owes its name to the historic namesake submarine that it used the cave as a shelter and a base during the Second World War. Unfortunately some of the cave's walls have been vandalized(sprayed with graffiti) by local, tourists or both of them. Inside the cave there is a small sandy beach with lots of rocks balance stocks everywhere. On the way back Panos discovered a cave, just a few meters above the sea surface. The amazing was that inside it was a small lake with salt water. Next time we would have more time to explore it further.
At this point I would like to thank Panos Karoutsos, an experienced Spelaeologist but above all a good friend that shares the same craziness for exploration with me and that he introduced me to the wonderful world of caves.
Never stop exploring! But first you have to motivate yourself!

Here we are again! Summer is still here (at least in Lefkas) and together with my good fellow and speleologist Panos Karoutsos, continue our missions around the island. This time the plan was to explore Sesoula island, a small, uninhabited so far (you never know in the future) islet, in the middle of nowhere, just a few miles away of the west side of Lefkas. It has high rocks on the one side (the highest point is around 33 meters) and smaller on the other. It is considered to be the basis of an earthquake fault. After we managed to anchor the sea kayak we reached to the lowest point of the island with the sharp rocks. We continued all the way to the top, through dense vegatation of a particular plant (unfortunately I don't know the species) and we finally get to the highest point where was a small light house and a concrete pedestal with a brass plate on it (used as a Geodetic Reference System).

Today we explored for first time together with my good friend Panos Karoutsos (member of Hellenic Speleogical Society) an uncharted cave with great and very interesting biodiversity inside, somewhere in Evgiros village. The specific one was named Pouliezos cave after the local person from Evgriros indicates us the path that leads there. Many thanks to all the people that share with us all these information.
