As a father, I offer my deepest condolences to the families that are mourning the loss of their loved ones after last nights tragic events in Mahdia.

The devastating fire that claimed 19 young lives at the Mahdia Secondary School Dormitory has left deep wounds in the soul of our nation.

Together, we must pray for the families coping with the lost of their children and those who have suffered injuries and are being cared for.

We must spare no resource in providing comfort, support and relief to those affected.

From conception to birth, our mothers have been the guiding force in our lives.

Football Moms adopt Sons, Nephews and Neighbors as part of their family and the football fraternity.

We see their passion and energy on the sidelines with every tackle, shot and even sometimes presumed bad calls. We love the commitment of our mothers.

Today, as we celebrate Mother’s Day, I urge all of us to take time and show that special lady in our lives the love and appreciation she deserves.

Happy Mother’s Day from President Wayne Forde and the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)

As President of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), my vision is to build a fully functional technical center, complete with all the modern requirements necessary for competitive football in all 10 regions of Guyana.

Recently, we kicked off Phase One (1) work of what will be the pride of Guyana’s Football, The GFF Durban Park Facility. Guyana will have a modern state of the art football stadium, with a projected seating capacity of 12-14 thousand spectators.

Our plan is to create a recreational football space for the adjoining communities, as the GFF and the Georgetown Football Association aim to expand our grassroots football program focused on young boys and girls.

The Phase One work will result in the entire 7.3 acres of land being cleaned and graded. Half of that space will be sand filled to a compact finished of 12 inches. This area will be marked into multiple mini pitches with goals mounted on each pitch.

We will be announcing the other phases of the work soon. However in the meanwhile, Durban Park will be an additional space for football to be played in Guyana.

Congratulations to the Santa Rosa Secondary School for being crowned the 2023 MILO Secondary School Boys Football Champions. The final match provided fans with an edge of your seat encounter, and it is safe to say that the 2023 MILO Secondary Schools tournament was a major success.

The passion and dedication displayed by these young footballers have not only brought joy, excitement and pride to their schools and communities, but it has also forged bonds of friendship and camaraderie that will last a lifetime. To the players of Santa Rosa Secondary School, keep striving for excellence, and may this win be a stepping stone towards greater success in the future.
Congratulations are also extended to Chase Academy for making a strong return to school football and in particular, to Sir. Chase for his steadfast commitment to the future of these students academically, while also affording them a platform to showcase their talents.

As President of the Guyana Football Federation (G.F.F), my vision is to bring our entire community of stakeholders together for the implementation of the GFF-MoE National School Football Development Programme. I would like to congratulate our Colleagues at (PETRA) for coordinating a successful tournament. Kudos must also go out to MASSY Distribution for investing in the youths of our nation over a period of nine (9) consecutive years.

Nelson Mandela once said, "Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does." And indeed, the MILO Secondary Schools tournament has shown how true these words are.

On Friday April 21, 2023, I was pleased to sign a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Machinery Corporation of Guyana (MACORP) which will allow an additional eleven (11) young men and women from the football fraternity to benefit from Excavator and Technician Scholarship Programme.

So far, twenty-one (21) young men and women have already benefitted from earlier training programmes facilitated by MACORP, and have gained meaningful transferrable skills.

Working together with various corporate partners, we will continue to transform the lives and livelihoods of both past and present footballers of Guyana, enabling them to invest in their families and communities while making a positive contribution to overall nation building.

Football As A Force For Good.
