Guyana–China Friendship Society Supports Archery Guyana Ahead of October Championships

The Guyana–China Friendship Society has joined the growing network of partners supporting Archery Guyana as the national federation prepares to host the Archery Championships from October 22–26 in Guyana.

The Society's support was formally handed over by its Secretary, Ms. Mei Cheung, during a presentation to Archery Guyana at a modest handover ceremony, providing timely assistance as the Federation enters the final phase of preparations for the regional championships.

The October championships represent a significant milestone for Guyana's archery development, bringing athletes and officials from across the Caribbean and the Americas to compete on Guyanese soil. Archery Guyana was awarded the hosting rights following a successful bid, making the event an important opportunity to showcase the country's growing capacity in the sport.

For Archery Guyana President Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, the support from the Guyana–China Friendship Society is particularly meaningful because it directly contributes to the Federation's ability to deliver the championships. “We are extremely grateful to the Guyana–China Friendship Society for standing with Archery Guyana at this important time. Hosting an international archery championship requires significant resources, and every contribution makes a real difference. This support will assist us as we work towards delivering a championship that Guyana can be proud of.”

The Federation has been working intensively to strengthen the sport nationally and build the technical and competitive capacity required to host international events.

While the immediate focus is on supporting the October championships, the engagement has also opened discussions about longer-term collaboration between the Guyana–China Friendship Society and Archery Guyana specifically in the development of archery.

“We see tremendous potential for this relationship to grow beyond this championship,” Persaud-McKinnon said. “Archery is an Olympic sport, and our ambition is to build a pathway that allows young Guyanese archers to progress from learning the sport, to competing nationally and regionally, and ultimately to pursuing Olympic qualification. Partnerships that invest in that journey can have an impact for many years.”

The Guyana–China Friendship Society has a longstanding mandate of strengthening friendship and people-to-people relations between Guyana and China. Its executive, including Secretary Mei Cheung, has continued to engage in initiatives promoting closer ties between the two countries.

For Archery Guyana, the connection provides an opportunity to bring that spirit of friendship directly into sport.

Archery Guyana expressed its sincere appreciation to Ms. Mei Cheung, President Paul Cheong and the Executive of the Guyana–China Friendship Society for their support and confidence in the Federation.

As the countdown to October continues, Archery Guyana is encouraging additional corporate, community and institutional partners to come forward and join the effort to ensure that Guyana delivers a successful and memorable Caribbean archery championship.

According to Ms. May, "We are very pleased to support Archery Guyana as Guyana prepares to host this important regional championship. Sport has a unique ability to bring people together, inspire young people and strengthen friendship and cooperation. We believe that supporting the development of archery is not only an investment in a sport, but also an investment in the young people who will represent Guyana in the future.”

Ms. Cheung went on to state at the handover ceremony, “We congratulate Archery Guyana on taking on the responsibility of hosting this championship. It is a wonderful opportunity for Guyana to showcase its sporting talent and hospitality to the region. We wish the Federation every success with the preparations and hope that the October championships will be a memorable and successful event for everyone involved.”

We hope this initial support can develop into a longer-term collaboration, particularly in youth development, cultural exchange and the promotion of archery. Frozen Delight Brings a Cool Touch to the upcoming Archery Championships 2026

A COOL CONTRIBUTION FOR A HOT COMPETITION: FROZEN DELIGHT SUPPORTS Archery Championships 2026

As Guyana prepares to welcome archers from across the Caribbean and beyond for the Caribbean Developmental Championship (CDC) 2026 and the Inaugural Caribbean Championships, a thoughtful and refreshing contribution from Frozen Delight is set to bring a welcome taste of cool relief to athletes, officials, volunteers and spectators.

Frozen Delight, owned by Faraad and Bibi Amreeta Gani, has proudly committed to donating 300 popsicles per day throughout the five-day championship, scheduled for October 22–26, 2026, at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

That means approximately 1,500 complimentary popsicles will be provided across the competition.

And the timing could hardly be better.

Guyana is experiencing notably high temperatures this season, with recent reporting highlighting unusually hot conditions and increased demand for electricity. Climate data for the Providence area indicates that October can still bring substantial heat, with historical October temperatures reaching approximately 89–92°F (32–33°C) depending on the climate dataset and location reference.

Archery is a sport of precision, patience and concentration. Athletes may spend hours on the field, while coaches, judges, volunteers, families and spectators contribute to the energy and atmosphere surrounding the competition.

Frozen Delight's contribution recognises that the athlete experience extends beyond the shooting line.

In addition to the daily donation of 300 popsicles, Frozen Delight will have a variety of other frozen treats available for purchase by participants, supporters and visitors throughout the championship.

The initiative is intended to encourage community spirit, provide refreshments and contribute to the overall enjoyment of what promises to be a landmark sporting event for Guyana and the Caribbean.

Archery Guyana President and Local Organising Committee Chair, Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, expressed appreciation for the contribution, noting that practical support such as this can make a meaningful difference to the experience of athletes and visitors. “We are extremely grateful to Faraad and Bibi Amreeta Gani and the Frozen Delight team for recognising that sometimes the simplest contributions can make the biggest difference. With athletes competing outdoors in Guyana's October heat, having a cold treat waiting for them is going to be very welcome indeed!”

Vidushi went on to state: “We want people to remember not only the competition, but the warmth of the welcome they received in Guyana. Frozen Delight is helping us do exactly that.... quite literally bringing a little coolness to the Archery Championship!”

According to Mrs. Bibi Amreeta Gani, "For Frozen Delight, the contribution is about more than selling frozen treats. It is about giving back, supporting sport and helping create a memorable experience for the wider community."

Mr. Faraad Gani stated: “Being involved in archery has shown me how much goes into creating a successful competition, not only from the athletes, but from coaches, officials, volunteers, parents and sponsors. We wanted to contribute in a practical way and help make the Championship a memorable experience for everyone. Supporting sport is about supporting the entire archery community around it.”

The organisers warmly welcome Frozen Delight as a supporter of the Archery Championships 2026 and thank the Gani family for helping to make the championship a little sweeter.... and considerably cooler.

Because after a few hours under the Guyanese sun, nothing says “welcome to Guyana” quite like a frozen treat!

Chinese Association of Guyana Backs Archery Guyana Ahead of Historic October Championships

The Chinese Association of Guyana has thrown its support behind Archery Guyana as the Federation intensifies preparations to host the 2026 Caribbean Development Championships in Guyana this October.

The support was formally handed over at the Chinese Association of Guyana’s Brickdam office, with President of the Chinese Association of Guyana, Mr. Stephen Su, representing the Association.

The gesture comes at a critical stage in preparations for what promises to be one of the most significant international archery events to be hosted in Guyana. Archery Guyana is preparing to welcome athletes, coaches, judges and officials from across the Caribbean and the wider region for the October championships.

For Archery Guyana President Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, the support represents far more than a contribution to an upcoming sporting event. “Hosting an international championship is never the work of one federation alone. It requires a country, its institutions, businesses, communities and supporters to come together with a shared belief in what Guyana can achieve. We are deeply grateful to President Stephen Su and the Chinese Association of Guyana for recognising the importance of this championship and for standing with Archery Guyana at this important moment.”

She added that partnerships such as this demonstrate the increasingly important role of community and private-sector support in building sustainable sport.

The Chinese Association of Guyana has a longstanding presence in Guyana and has continued to contribute to national development and community initiatives. Under the leadership of President Stephen Su, the Association has also participated in partnerships aimed at strengthening cultural, social and economic engagement in Guyana.

The upcoming championships will provide Guyanese athletes with the opportunity to compete on home soil against regional competitors while giving the country the opportunity to demonstrate its capacity to host international sporting events to a high standard.

Mrs. Persaud-McKinnon stressed that every contribution towards the championships has a direct impact on the Federation's ability to deliver the event professionally. Archery Guyana extended its sincere appreciation to President Stephen Su and the Chinese Association of Guyana for their confidence in the Federation and for supporting the continued development of archery in Guyana.

The Federation also called on other members of the business community, civil society and the wider Guyanese community to join the growing circle of partners supporting the October championships.

“We are building something that belongs to Guyana,” Persaud-McKinnon said. “And we want Guyanese businesses, organisations and communities to see themselves as part of this story. When the first arrow is shot in October, it will represent not just the athletes on the shooting line, but everyone who helped us get there.”

President Stephen Su said the Chinese Association of Guyana was pleased to support Archery Guyana and its efforts to host the 2026 Caribbean Development Championships and the Inaugural Caribbean championships. “The Chinese Association of Guyana is proud to support Archery Guyana as Guyana prepares to welcome athletes and sporting representatives from across the Caribbean. Guyana’s Mixed Archery Team start the Central American and Caribbean Games

Guyana’s Target Archery athletes Devin Permaul and Roshini Boodhoo have completed their qualification rounds at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo on Friday 24th July, 2026.

In their individual recurve quests under sweltering conditions and high humidity, Permaul, seeded 25th in the Recurve Men event. He will move to the next phase of the competition, the elimination round matches, where he will face 8th-seeded Adrian Muñoz Rodríguez of Puerto Rico in the Round of 32.

While Boodhoo, seeded 29th in the tournament, will take on 4th seeded and world number 6 ranked Ana Paula Vázquez Flores of Mexico.

The matches will be contested under the World Archery Olympic set system, with the first archer to reach six set points advancing to the next round.

Traveling with the athletes is National Head Coach Ryan McKinnon who together with President of the Federation Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon praised both athletes for their hard work and preparation leading up to this point.

Archery Guyana’s President said: “Devin and Roshini have worked tirelessly to reach this level of competition. Qualifying for and now able to represent our nation Guyana at the Central American and Caribbean Games is an achievement in itself, and we are proud of their dedication and commitment. We wish them every success as they compete against some of the world’s best archers.”

Both athletes will next compete on Sunday 26th July 2026, with Boodhoo shooting at 2:00 p.m. and Permaul at 3:30 p.m. local time. The live scoring can be followed online at www.ianseo.net

The Central American and Caribbean Games remain one of the oldest and most prestigious regional multi-sport events in the world, bringing together the Caribbean’s and Central America’s finest athletes in a celebration of sporting excellence, unity and friendship. For Guyana’s archers, qualification to compete at this level reflects dedication, disciplined training and unwavering commitment to representing the Golden Arrowhead with pride.

Archery Guyana extends its sincere appreciation to the President Godfrey Munroe and the executive committee of the Guyana Olympic Association for its continued leadership and support in facilitating the participation of Team Guyana at these Games. The Federation also acknowledges the guidance of Chef-de-Mission Kenisha Headley and Deputy Chef Roger Callender for their commitment to ensuring that Guyana’s athletes are afforded the opportunity to compete on the regional stage.

31 Young Archers Compete at the National Youth 18 Metres Championships 2026

A total of 31 athletes from various school clubs and private clubs participated in the National Youth 18 Metres Championships 2026, held earlier today with the Qualification rounds, Saturday 11th July , 2026 at the Guyana Police Force Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.

The championship showcased the growing strength of youth archery in Guyana, with young athletes demonstrating discipline, focus, and determination in a competitive environment.

Archery Guyana extends sincere appreciation to Commissioner of Police Dr. Clifton Hicken and Mr. Colin Boyce, Sports Development Officer for the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and Retired Deputy Superintendent, for their invaluable support in facilitating the successful hosting of the event at the Guyana Police Force Sports Club Ground.

Special thanks are also extended to the management and staff of Guyana Beverages Inc. for providing Oasis Water and Altitude drinks, ensuring that athletes, officials, and volunteers remained hydrated throughout the day’s activities.

The event was further supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the National Sports Commission, and Director of Sport Mr. Steve Ninvalle.

A highlight of the day was the presence of Honourable Minister Steven Jacobs, Minister within the Ministry of,l Culture, Youth and Sport who spent time on the ground engaging with the young athletes, learning more about the sport of archery, and offering words of encouragement and inspiration about success, resilience, and learning from failure in sport.

The championship will continue with the finals tomorrow on Sunday, July 12, 2026, where the top-ranked athletes will compete for national youth championship honours in the recurve under 15 men and women combined, barebow under 15 women and Barebow under 18 men.
