ππ° HKCC Qilin tour of Phuket πΉπ π
History was made earlier this month with the first ever HKCC Qilin cricket tour, as the club travelled over to Phuket for a 3-match series against the Patong Penguins at the Alan Cooke Ground from 7th to 9th February. The squad comprised of a mix of Qilin and Xuanwu players, as well as 6 players from the HKCC Diamonds - HKCC's newest women's team!
The tour featured two social matches - a T20 game on Friday and a two-innings, 15 over per side 'Test' match on Saturday - followed by the competitive 'Cup' game on Sunday. The Patong Penguins won by just 9 runs after scoring 160/7 in their 20 overs. Andy Tse (4-0-9-2) and Alvina Tam (3-0-38-2) were the pick of HKCC's bowlers, and Michael Chung (57) hit the first ever Qilin fifty on tour, but the hosts held their nerve in a dramatic finish, despite Qilin skipper and Phuket local Adrian Lai's explosive 35* off 19 balls.
The memories on the field were only surpassed by those made off the field, with the touring party enjoying all that Phuket had to offer. We would like to thank the Patong Cricket Club and the Alan Cooke Sports Ground for their hospitality, and we look forward to the next Qilin tour!

Match of The Week π
The U17 Gap Ramblers remain unbeaten with a 1-wicket win in a thriller at GDB Lower!
The Gap Ramblers took an early wicket after being sent in to field first, and kept the momentum going throughout the innings. The Link Assassins - playing with just 9 players - had 7 batters cross double digits but a top score of only 26, and were bowled out in 32 overs for 178. Skipper Sid Khanna led the way with the ball, taking 4 wickets.
The chase started solidly for the Gap Ramblers, with 22 runs in the first 4 overs before the first wicket fell. From there, the lineup collapsed, and they quickly found themselves 8 down for just 49 runs! But they had a trick up their sleeve, with three experienced batters hidden down in the tail. Sid contributed 20 runs, but it was Subhayu Makewita (batting at 10) and Siddhesh Ahila (batting at 11) who both scored 47* each to pull off an unlikely victory! Their 93-run partnership for the 10th wicket was by far the largest of the match, and came off just 68 balls, as the Ramblers pulled off victory from the jaws of defeat!
Well done to the team, and we look forward to more great matches to come!

Match of The Week π
George Loup's remarkable 200 leads an understrength Scorpions team to the brink of a stunning victory against PACC Elite!
The Scorpions entered this Sunday's match missing not just their Hong Kong, China team representatives, but also their HK U19 team representatives, the Shah brothers, and a couple of other regular players. Four players made their Sunday Div 1 debuts for the Scorpions against a strong PACC side, with veteran David Jacquier stepping up as captain.
This inexperienced team was put to the sword by PACC's batters after electing to bowl first, with their entire top six getting into double digits, Tanwir and Hafeez both top scoring with 91 each. They finished on a massive 366/4 in their 50 overs.
George Loup opened the batting and took control of the chase. He brought up his 50 off 38 balls with a six in the 11th over, the team score reading 67/2! His century took just 78 balls, and at that point the team score read 119/2 in 20.1 overs! He was joined by Sahal Malvernkar, and together the pair added 163 runs in 128 balls, keeping the chase on track. They entered the final 10 overs needing a further 88 to win, Sahal on 59 and George on 195!
Unfortunately the Scorps were not able to finish off what would have been a remarkable chase. Sahal was dismissed next over, and George got out immediately after bringing up his 200 - which took 151 balls and featured 21 fours and 12 sixes! The Scorps continued to battle, but ultimately fell just 12 runs short in a game that saw 720 runs scored across the complete 100 overs. A terrific effort given the circumstances, off the back of a superb innings by George Loup!
Well done to George and the team, and we look forward to more great matches to come!

Match of The Week π
Our U15 Witherers pulled off a thrilling 8 run win over the CCC Young Guns U15 on Saturday afternoon!
Sent in to bat first, the Witherers found themselves 4 down for 60 runs in the first 8 overs. Skipper Cameron Lee and Ben Caplin rebuilt the innings with a solid 60 run partnership, but were both dismissed in the space of 3 overs to leave the Witherers struggling again. The lower order battled to reach the final over of the innings, and they were bowled out for 161 with 3 balls to spare.
The young guns started very strongly in response, reaching 94 for no loss in 15 overs, with Yuk Tung Ip hitting an excellent 56! But the Witherers fought back - getting two runouts and two wickets in quick succession, and then three wickets in 5 balls soon after, leaving CCC struggling at 128/7! Isaac Lu hit some big shots after William was runout trying to keep him on strike, and CCC started the 24th over needing 9 to win with 2 wickets in hand. But Zac Parker delivered the final blow, clean bowling the numbers 10 and 11 to secure a stunning win for the Witherers!
Well done to the team, and we look forward to more great matches to come!
