How do we turn a trophy idea into a real competition award?
This project shows the complete journey:
3D artwork → mold → zinc alloy casting → antique finish → wooden base → final packaging.
The biggest challenge was maintaining detailed athlete muscle definition while making the trophy strong enough for production and transportation.
A real custom trophy requires both design and manufacturing experience.

If your medal design has large openings, thin lines or letters that sit outside the main body, it’s worth checking the structure before making the mold.
That was exactly the case with this Prairie Cup medal.
At around 152mm, the design included multiple hollow sections and freestanding lettering. We reviewed the 3D structure first, then moved into die casting, trimming, polishing and matte antique gold plating.
The final order was 250 pieces for Canada.
For us, the goal isn’t just to make the sample look good. The structure needs to stay stable across the full production run.

One of the best ways to understand medal quality is to look at what happens before the finished product.
For this 1,000-piece bodybuilding medal order, we started with the production artwork, then built the 3D mold structure, engraved the steel molds by CNC, die cast the zinc alloy blanks, polished and plated them in gunmetal black, added the soft enamel colors, and completed final QC before packing.
The medal itself is approximately 120mm in diameter and 3mm thick, with the same artwork on both sides.
Because the medal is much larger than a standard race medal, surface quality becomes more important. Small scratches, uneven plating or enamel defects are easier to notice, so the mold, polishing and coloring stages all need extra attention.
The full order was completed and shipped to South Korea.

A medal like this is all about the small details.
The character has several raised levels, the outlines stay clean after plating, and the enamel colors are filled into very tight areas without losing the original artwork.
The irregular island-shaped base also makes the medal feel much more custom than a standard round medal.
This one was produced as a custom 5K, 10K and 15K race medal, together with a full-color sublimation ribbon.
For us, a good custom medal should still look interesting when you see it from the side — not only from the front.

A finished medal only shows the last part of the job.
Before we produced these 400 Aloha Run medals, we first converted the customer’s artwork into a workable metal structure.
The recessed background was reserved for blue glitter, while the lettering and tropical graphics were built as raised metal sections with enamel color.
We checked the 2D drawing, mold engraving and 3D structure before moving into casting, polishing, matte nickel plating and coloring.
The finished medal measures 5 inches / 127 mm, with a custom tropical ribbon to complete the design.

Here’s a recent custom medal project for BigFish Tri & Du.

The client supplied a colorful fish logo, and we converted it into a 4-inch zinc alloy finisher medal with bright nickel plating and soft enamel.

The biggest challenge was keeping the small water details, lettering and different color sections clean once the design moved from flat artwork into metal.

We produced 150 pieces, added custom FINISHER sublimation ribbons, completed QC and packed the full order for international delivery.

Projects like this are a good example of why the production drawing matters just as much as the final artwork — the medal needs to look good, but it also needs to work properly in the mold.

Here’s a recent 300-piece custom triathlon medal project from our factory.

The medal measures approximately 106.44 × 101.6 mm with a 3 mm zinc alloy body. Because the artwork included a large race number, helmet, goggles and several overlapping elements, we used a completely custom die-cast shape instead of a standard round medal.

After casting, the medals were polished and plated in matte nickel. We then filled the recessed sections with multiple enamel colors and added a custom sublimation printed ribbon.

The photos show the full process—from production artwork and raw casting to bulk packing and final UPS delivery to Michigan, USA.

For event medals, we always pay attention to the whole batch, not just one good sample.

A recent custom medal project for the Elkhart Lake Tri & Du.

The client supplied the original race logo, and we converted it into a production-ready medal design while keeping the trees, lake, lettering and overall shape recognizable.

The finished medals were made from zinc alloy with antique copper plating, multi-level relief and imitation enamel colors. Some of the tree and lake sections were quite narrow, so we had to pay extra attention to the metal borders during mold development and color filling.

After final QC, the order was packed and shipped by UPS to Michigan, USA.
