Official page for Hong Kong University Cricket Club. Founded in 1913, we play in the CHK Saturday League.

If you are a student, alumni, member of staff and want to play some cricket, we would love to hear from you! The University of Hong Kong was established in 1911 and its cricket club came into being just two years later, making us one of the oldest in Hong Kong. We played our first league match against the Navy in 1923 (we won) and went on to have sporadic title success over the years: Saturday Lea

Tailenders Vs Nightwatchmen!

The Indoor League is here, and for the first time ever HKUCC have entered two teams into the competition!

We celebrated this with an internal practice game yesterday evening, becoming the first external club to run an indoor game at the new net facilities at Indian Recreation Club!

The Tailenders emerged victorious in the game, but the Nightwatchmen put up stronger numbers in the after-match dinner. Honours even - we look forward to the rematch at the league later this summer!

An overcast day at GDB to end the season, and we won the toss and opted to bowl first. Every bowler used ended up with a wicket, Nitesh taking 3/41 in his 7 overs, Sachin 2/25 in his 7, and Asim taking 4 good catches in the field.

Our chase started poorly with 2 early wickets, but Rishi’s half century (64 off 50 with 6 fours and 2 sixes) and contributions from Ashu (41 off 37) and Pandu (25 off 24) ensured a comfortable chase with plenty of time to spare. A good way to end the season, followed by a celebration dinner at Rajdoots after!

An overcast day at GDB saw us put in one of our best bowling performances of the season – Jaya taking two wickets in the first over and combining with Yaqzaan to reduce IRC to 17/5 in 5.2 overs! IRC rallied well, but Abhishek took 3 wickets in his first over after drinks, and we managed to bowl them out for just 133. A brisk 45-run opening partnership between Ashutosh and Nitesh set us up for a comfortable chase, with no further hiccups.

Just kidding, this is HKUCC after all. IRC’s spinners bowled excellently and we wobbled to 79/5, threatening to throw away yet another winning position. But Ashwin remained composed, and Abhishek scored blistering 41* to get us over the line with plenty of time to spare. Phew. Off to Haqs!

We headed over to GDB for a cold, wet, sloppy game of cricket where, in classic HKUCC fashion, we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

There were some positives to take from this game – Tiran (7-0-18-2) and Zain’s (6-0-42-2) bowling, Rishi’s (49 off 38) and Ankit’s (37 off 39) batting. Chasing 210 (extras the second highest score with 41), we were 121/3 at Drinks – 30 runs ahead of the DLS Par. Then came the collapse, then the rain, and we shook hands 5 overs later and 19 runs behind.

Oh well – off to Haq’s!

On the first Saturday of 2026 we made our way out to PKVR Park to play our old friends SCC Lancers.

We elected to field first with two debutants - Sahil and Abhishek - and a returning Ruchi in the team. We took a few early wickets, but the Lancers fought back to post a challenging 218/7.

In response, Ashu gave us a quick start, Asim kept things steady, Jaya and Abhishek tore into the bowling, and Tiran and Pandu put on the finishing touches. With 9 needed to win in 8 balls, Sahil lofted a six just over the fielder's fingertips, and Zain hit the winning runs with 4 balls to spare!

A fantastic game, with twists, turns, and a dinner at Anjappar Chettinand after to celebrate. What a way to start 2026!

On a beautiful December day out at Hong Kong’s Lords (AKA Gin Drinkers Bay), the team successfully put into place skipper Nitesh's 3 phase master plan against CCC Hung See:

- Bat first, score 200
- Bowl them out
- Dinner at Haq’s

Ankit's 55, Vinay 31 not out, and contributions throughout the lineup got us to 216 in our 35 overs. Jaya and Rayyan combined to take 4/52 in 14 overs, and Sachin nabbed 3 wickets for just 8 runs as we bowled CCC out for 130 runs. A strong showing on the field was backed up by a strong showing off it - with 10 people joining dinner at Haq's. One of the good days.

HKUCC vs Laguna Gully - 6th Dec 2025 @ GDB

Two imperfect teams played out a thrilling game at GDB, and we we able to come out on top for our first win of the season!

We were sent in to field first, and Rayan delivered another first-over wicket. Tiran (1/29) and Ashwin (2/38) built pressure through the middle, but Laguna batted well to set us 201 to win. Ashu and Yaqzaan gave us a bright start, before Ashwin built a series of partnerships with Asim (24), Tiran (27), Jaya and Rayan. Laguna were generous in the field, with numerous missed chances, and it all came down to the final over with 9 left to win. Captain fantastic Ashwin hit a boundary third ball, and scored the winning runs off the next, finishing on an unbeaten 72 off 79 balls. A true captain's innings!

On the evening of 14th November, 8 members of HKUCC made the trek to Kam Tin to enjoy a fine feast at Thai Cow.

A copious amount of garlic bread, beer and green thai teas were consumed. The fish was delectable, the beef superb, and the pineapple fried rice superbly balanced.

The great food was matched with great conversation, with topics ranging from cricket to world travel, TV and films, the advancements in AI, and the philosophical question of why we play this sport to begin with. A wonderful evening and we look forward to the next one!

Oh, and a few hours prior to dinner we played a cricket match against Centaurs CC, unfortunately losing by 12 runs.

It was a gorgeous afternoon for cricket at PKVR, and we couldn’t have scripted a better opening: Punjab Lions were 7 for 3 inside the third over, and by 28.5 overs they were 111/6. Then the game tilted, as they hammered 81 in the final 6.1 overs.

Unfortunately 193 was a bit out of reach, and we lost regular wickets in our attempt to keep up with the rate. We ended batting through our 35 overs for just 120/9.

We won the toss, batted, and ran into a day where the oddities outnumbered the boundaries. Two freak dismissals and a steady drip of dots left us 106 all out. We fought hard with the ball, including Jaya taking two wickets in the first over, but the Strikers got home at 107/7 in 20.5.
