These photos are little pieces of my life in Chen Village, the birthplace of Tai Chi. In those years I went back more than twenty times, once staying for over a month of intensive training, until the elder members of the Chen family council finally accepted me as an inheritor and hosted a formal ceremony for me.
Time moves on and many faces have changed. From Hong Kong and Shenzhen to this secret dusty yellow‑earth village, eating, living and training with the Tai Chi family — over the years many people came and left, and often I was the only one still there at the end.
Looking back, all those details feel like walking into a martial arts novel; maybe it was just fate.

Over the years I’ve taught countless students, and each chapter of my life is tied to different faces and memories.
The bond between teacher and student is its own kind of relationship. Especially in martial arts, everything must be passed on carefully, hand to hand, leaving no room for carelessness.
No matter how the times change, I still hold on to this tradition — some things are simply worth insisting on.

I once considered committing to horseback riding long term, so that one day I could ride through villages, forests and open plains in Europe, then camp under the open sky at night.
But learning to ride over a long period inevitably carries the risk of injury, which might affect my tai chi and kung fu — once I decide to learn something, I give it my all.
Later, I turned to dance instead, but that is another story.

I studied French at the Alliance Française in Paris twice, spending one month there each time.
For many of us who learn French, studying in Paris is a shared dream. During those days, I met classmates and local friends; we went to class together, lingered over conversations in restaurants, visited museums, shared macaron‑filled afternoon teas, and spent our nights drinking and dancing at parties along the Seine.
Those moments quietly opened a new chapter in my life.

Paris is a city where I hold far too many memories.
Hemingway once wrote: “If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.

I once took a six-hour cooking class at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. The dishes themselves were not particularly complicated; as long as you followed the instructions, they were manageable.
What stayed with me most was the moment when the chef asked us to use a knife to remove all the meat from a large raw rack of lamb, not leaving a single thread behind, and we stood at the counter trimming it for a full thirty minutes.
The many details and rules of the kitchen I learned there have truly stayed with me for life.
