I started out my career in freediving as a safety diver for depth training and competitions in Panglao, Phiippines.

Before I ever taught a course, I was a safety diver.

Long before certifications and coaching, I was in the water watching, learning, and taking responsibility for another diver’s life at depth. That experience shaped everything.

Being a safety freediver taught me to read subtle signs, stay calm under pressure, and respect the fine line every diver walks. It wasn’t about performance — it was about presence.

Now, as I run my freediving school, that foundation is at the core of how I teach. Safety isn’t an add-on. It’s the starting point.

Every student I train carries a piece of that mindset with them into the water.

Hello, this is Wayne👋🏽This is a long (but I’ll make it short) story of from how I went through from frustrated education system from childhood, awful experiences in free diving lessons, and even being abandoned alone on the boat for nearly five hours after deep blackout (BO) with obvious lung squeeze injuries, without any help, waiting for death…

To why I decided to start Arete Apnea Freediving Academy.

Our goal is to ensure that fewer individuals experience the dangers I once faced, fostering a community where trust and open communication thrive. And above all, to keep students safe from unnecessary risk and injury.

趁假期前往外國學自由潛水，例如在菲律賓和台灣的玻璃水中練習下潛和閉氣，一邊享受假期的同時又能學習一門新技能⁉️

最近有不少同學仔聯絡本會想在香港繼續上在外國未能完成的自由潛水課程，為了減少冤枉路，特意出post提供本會建議 ><

事實上，我們更推薦在香港的綠光寶水打好基礎!!!
再去旅行的時候，不但要適應行程和當地天氣，還有語言障礙，加上要在短時間內密集完成課程，往往會帶來較大的壓力🫂🫂

以外國的潛水課程，如 Aida 2為例，一般只安排在2天內完成⋯
🤿對於自由潛水的初學者來說，如果不會反壓的話，可以在兩天內學會自由潛水的機會更是渺小‼️
🇭🇰特別香港人在廣東話中很少用到軟顎，成為了學frenzel的一大難關🥲

✔️在家中練習反壓dry training
✔️約去泳池訓練反壓
✔️減少密集上課壓力，以放鬆心情上課
✔️不用憂慮行程或課程進度受阻

🟡當在香港打好基礎，有充足時間做準備、練習和進步，不但學習效率更高，也能更快完成課程完成要求的🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

【自由潛水：介紹篇】

很多人可能聽聞過或見過潛水員帶著氧氣瓶下水的影片，但對自由潛水這個詞較陌生，到底自由潛水是什麼❓

以下是一篇對自由潛水的小小介紹，為大家分享自由潛水於水肺潛水的分別及優點～

🔸潛水主要分為自由潛水（Free diving）及水肺潛水（Scuba diving）兩類，前者靠閉氣下水，限制較少，後者則需要攜帶及依賴於氧氣瓶及各種裝備上，而潛水規則也較多‼️

為什麼自由潛水較適合探索水底世界？🤔

🤿不需要攜帶過多及沉重的裝備，靠着自身的力量、面具、呼吸管和fin便可隨時下水，潛入海底

🫧閉氣可以更柔和地接近魚類、海龜和章魚等海洋生物，像夥伴一樣近距離地觀察牠們。相比之下，水肺潛水的氧氣瓶排出的氣泡聲過於嘈雜，則較輕易地嚇到海洋生物>

🩵為什麼選擇Arete Apnea自由潛水學校？【上篇】

⏹︎提供專為Free diving而設的裝備，彈性和保暖程度是最好的。3mm厚度的潛水服，不影響學員身體活動的同時，在21度的水溫下也能如常上課^^

⏹︎除了潛水服以外，也提供自由潛水專用的裝備，如：碳纖維長Fin、面罩及負重帶等

⏹︎使用合適的裝備可以提升潛水技術，也能更容易地學習技巧（如踢fin技巧），也能避免造成一些傷害喔（❌如面罩擠壓傷！！）

⏹︎靜態閉氣訓練將會在海域進行（非泳池），課程亦包括四次的開放水域訓練（而普遍學校只提供三次🤫）
