Baggy Trouser Trekking follows the hiking, guiding, and training exploits of Rich Leung in Hong Kong, Asia, and beyond.

The name for the company came to Rich after successfully completing the Japan Oxfam Trailwalker in 2013. Looking for some inspiration on how to keep the tempo of the hike going Rich started hit on the track by Madness called "Baggy Trousers", especially the end of the song. Just buying some replacement shoes for these. Looking at my stats I have recorded 2,010km since I purchased this pair. While I have also worn other shoes for some of those k's, I use these all the times including for a lot of trips I don't record such as to and from the office, lunch, trips for supplies etc. Anecdotal, I know, but I reckon they've lasted for over 3,400km. Not bad for 5 months wear...

Late post of my recent trip to HK on my birthday. My legs have only just recovered but it was worth it! Thanks to everyone who turned out and I hope to see you all soon!

Photos from my recent trip to Hong Kong. I dearly miss the hills so I tried to spend as much time there as my legs would permit! Sunday was a solo "just go out and have some fun" route and I re-found my "why not" paradigm, at least for a little while. Maybe watching the "Four Trails" movie helped a little.

The "why not" paradigm is important to me and I've been able to work it into my running but not into other aspects of my life. When I do then I guess I'll be complete...

From my latest trip to Hong Kong. Thanks to everyone who met up and made the trip special! I will be in pain for the next few days but it's worth it just to be in the hills again!

Playing with the sunset in the park again. I'm getting to know where to go...

Playing with the sunset on the weekend. I'm pretty much guaranteed to get out there in time. Because the pollution is high right now then the sky is more colourful. When in challenging times use it to your benefit...;

UPDATE: I'VE FINISHED WITH 4,709.8km for the year! Time to celebrate!

I've not finished yet but I've managed to broach 4,700km this year. This time round, my journey started on December 31, 2017 and I've managed to do a minimum of 3km for 6 full years!

When I did this hike 7 years ago I didn't think of doing the consecutive challenge, I just decided to do a "last hike for the year". With all the colouring you can see it was as much running as walking. At that time I was 88kg. My lowest weight in that journey was a dehydrated 78kg having flown LHR-SIN-HKG. Unfortunately, now, I've broached the 90kg band and currently 92.8kg. Time to stop the rot and get back down to a lower level where all my joints will thank me.

Thanks to everyone who's supported me. It's getting a little tougher to find new challenges to keep the motivation going. Right now I'm looking for 100 million steps on Fitbit and trying to do that before my birthday in April. Yes, I have a spreadsheet but this post is not about that.

Happy New Year and here's to a great 2025 for us all!

The name for the site came to Rich after successfully completing the Japan Oxfam Trailwalker in 2013. Looking for some inspiration on how to keep the tempo of the hike going Rich started hit on the track by Madness called "Baggy Trousers", especially the end of the song. The cadence fit perfectly and the team found the song uplifting.

Struggling with blisters for most of the trail the track was what Rich needed to complete the course. Whenever "it" got tough Rich was able to replay the chorus and re-motivate himself. To pay tribute to the ordeal Rich decided to name the company Baggy Trouser Trekking. Hey, there are worse reasons for site names out there!!
