Hong Kong Typhoons Ice Hockey Club Cessation of Operations Announcement
To our beloved players, dedicated parents, valued partners, and supporters:
After heartfelt consideration, the Board of Hong Kong Typhoons Ice Hockey Club announces that our club will conclude its journey on August 31, 2025. We take pride in having fulfilled our mission to pioneer elite ice hockey in Hong Kong, and we now celebrate a new era where the sport thrives through collective efforts.
I. Legacy: Glory and Contributions (Since 2017 Restructuring)
Since its 2017 restructuring, the Typhoons have become Hong Kong’s premier ice hockey training program, achieving remarkable milestones:
• International Breakthroughs: In 2024, our U13 team defeated the Atlanta Selects (USA) at the Quebec International Pee-wee Hockey Tournament, advancing to the playoff round—a historic first for an Asian team. In 2025, the U13A team clinched the championship at the Mega Ice Hockey 5's, adding to our youth division’s growing collection of international accolades.
• Developing Team HK Talent: Over 30 Typhoons players have been selected for Hong Kong’s junior and senior representative teams. This includes members of the 2025 Asian Winter Games squad and key contributors to the U18 Team HK’s historic gold medal at the 2024 IIHF U18 World Championship Division IIIB.
II. Evolution of Hong Kong Ice Hockey: A New Era of Diversity
The decision to cease operations reflects profound shifts in Hong Kong’s ice hockey landscape:
• Decentralized Elite Development: New facilities (Lohas Rink & DB Rink) enable a rising number of clubs to offer diverse elite pathways. This eliminates the need for a single entity to shoulder elite development.
• Lowered Barriers & Mass Participation: Large-scale hockey development initiatives have transformed ice hockey from an "elitist sport" to mainstream participation, driving a surge in grassroots engagement.
• Regularized International Exposure: Major tournaments like the Mega Ice Hockey 5's engage clubs across Hong Kong, providing consistent high-level competition for local players annually.
Against this backdrop, the Typhoons’ pioneering role in establishing elite ice hockey is thus concluded.
III. Cessation Timeline & Transition Plan
Effective immediately, the Club will:
• Schedule: The remaining training programs will run uninterrupted until August 31, 2025; new registrations are suspended.
• Refunds & Equipment: Members will receive notices regarding refunds and equipment handling within one week.
• Player Transition: Player referral services are available to seamlessly connect members with new clubs.
IV. Gratitude & Outlook
The Typhoons’ legacy owes itself to every player’s dedication, parents’ trust, coaches’ commitment, and the unwavering support of rinks and partners. While we depart with profound reluctance, we are confident the Hong Kong ice hockey community will continue to cultivate its future elites in this thriving, diversified ecosystem.

香港颱風冰球俱樂部停止運作公告
致所有球員、家長、合作夥伴及支持者：
香港颱風冰球俱樂部（HK Typhoons）董事會經過深思熟慮後宣布，球會將於8月31日後正式停止運作。我們深信颱風冰球俱樂部已完成歷史使命，更多不同持分者正共同推動香港冰球發展邁進新階段。
一、輝煌成就：榮耀與貢獻（自2017年重組以來）
颱風球會自2017年重組以來，成為香港冰球精英訓練的標竿，屢創佳績：
• 國際賽事突破：2024年，U13代表隊於「全球青少年PEEWEE冰球精英錦標賽」擊敗美國亞特蘭大精英隊，歷史性殺入決賽周，為亞洲球隊寫下新篇章 。2025年，U13A隊於「Mega Ice五人冰球賽」奪冠，青少年組別累計斬獲多項國際獎項 。
• 培育香港代表隊主力：超過30名颱風球員入選香港青少年及成人代表隊，包括2025年亞冬會港隊成員，並在2024年U18世界冰球錦標賽（第三組乙）中助力U18港隊奪得該組別歷史性金牌 。
二、香港冰球生態的蛻變：多元發展的新時代
颱風決定退場，建基於香港冰球界近年來的深刻變化：
• 業界不再需要單一球會獨力發展精英青少年冰球員：近年新建的康城溜冰場及愉景灣溜冰場提升了硬件支援，令新興球會崛起，更多球會願意提供多元精英訓練路徑，分散了集中化的人才培養需求 。
• 基礎設施與參與門檻降低：大型冰球推廣計劃使冰球從「貴族運動」轉向大眾化，草根參與率飆升 。
• 國際化賽事常態化：「Mega Ice五人冰球賽」等大型賽事吸引全港球會參與，本地球員每年可持續接觸高水平交流 。
在此背景下，颱風作為早期推動冰球運動精英化的歷史任務已圓滿達成。
三、停止運作安排與過渡計劃
即日起，本會將啟動以下程序：
· 時間表：訓練課程至2025年8月31日，並停止往後的登記報名
· 退費: 會員退費與設備處置方案將於一周內專函通知
· 球員銜接保障：球員轉介服務同步開放，全力協助會員銜接新球隊
