Gay Games Hong Kong Runners Social Meetup!

Join us for a runners meet and greet, hosted by the Out Runners HK and Gay Games HK! This informal meetup is being held to bring together LGBTQ+ athletes, running enthusiasts, and allies from all walks of life to embrace diversity, community, and the spirit of sportsmanship. To enhance the festive experience, T:ME Bar will be offering happy hour drinks all night long, ensuring that attendees can indulge in their favorite libations while mingling and socializing with fellow GGHK participants and admirers.

We regret to inform that with the current Covid restrictions in place, Pride Run Hong Kong will need to be postponed once again. We are looking at Sundays in March of 2023 and will announce the new date as soon as it is confirmed.

‘I was on the brink of turning 60’: 10k race runner, 74, on her late start You may think being 58 you’re too old to start running, but Sue Ko did just that in Hong Kong. Now 74, she has clocked her best 10k race times in recent years.

I wanted to update everyone on Pride Run 2022 and also to share the just released, inspiring, and award winning film Mira.

Please pencil in November 27th for this year's Pride Run. Hopefully, "3rd time's the charm," after having to cancel in '20 and '21. We expect confirmation of the date and location in the next few weeks.

Filmed in Nepal and Hong Kong, Mira documents the life of a young Nepalese trail runner. It was just released to the general public by the Hong Kong photographer and film-maker, Lloyd Belcher.

"Mira follows the journey of a spirited Nepali village girl on her pursuit to being a world-recognised mountain runner. Growing up in a remote village in Nepal, Mira always dreamed of being successful in sport. When she was older she travelled the long distance to Kathmandu to try her luck. Out of pocket, she was about to return home to her village, when by chance on a morning run, she meets another runner who tells her about a long running race in the local hills. She not only takes first place but also begins to realise her tough mountain village upbringing has prepared her perfectly for this sport."

"This short, colourful documentary, filmed in Hong Kong, Nepal and Australia, tells the story of Mira’s speedy rise in the world of mountain running."

Announcement: Gay Games Hong Kong 2023 in Discussions with Guadalajara, Mexico to Co-host 11th Games

We announced today that GGHK and Gay Games, the international governing body for the Games, are in discussions with Guadalajara, Mexico, a finalist for the 2022 and 2026 Gay Games, to be a co-host of the November 2023 Gay Games.

Faced with continued challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertain trajectory of the virus, in the true spirit of “Unity in Diversity,” we wanted to ensure that Gay Games 11 can be accessible to participants across two locations and meet our aim of being as inclusive as possible.

The dates for the Hong Kong Games will remain the same, 3-11 November 2023. We are working to define the exact construct and program in each location, as well as the multitude of logistics necessary to ensure a seamless and positive experience for all.

We are incredibly grateful to all our supporters, community partners, sponsors and volunteers for their ongoing encouragement, belief and backing; despite the many challenges which have arisen, we remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver the most inclusive and diverse Gay Games in its 40-year history.

As we patiently wait for what we hope will be Pride Run Hong Kong 2023, I wanted to let everyone know about a local PRIDE running group called OutRunners HK. They meet every Saturday morning at 9 am at the start of Bowen Road on Hong Kong Island for an 8 km road run or the occasional trail run. Everyone is welcome to join and you can find more details on the group in the link below.

We are sad to announce that with the current pandemic restrictions in place, it will not be possible to hold Pride Run Hong Kong in 2021. Running｜5 trail routes for beginners Trail runners Stephen and Wai Hung recently completed the Hong Kong Ultra-Triathlon 260 Challenge with the full length of the MacLehose Trail. If you’re new to trail running, take a look at these 5 routes recommended by Stephen and Wai Hung.

Pre-registration has opened for Gay Games Hong Kong in November, 2022. Register now for HKD $50, and save HKD $200 when full registration opens up later this year. The Games are about inclusion and diversity and everyone is invited to participate.

Also, we hope to announce the 2021 Pride Run date soon. We are just waiting for confirmation of the date from the parks department.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Pride Run Hong Kong, scheduled for March 28th, will be postponed to the fall of 2021. With the current COVID-19 restrictions in place, permits are not being approved for races and we can’t guarantee the safety of runners, volunteers or organizers.

We hope to announce the new Pride Run date by next month. Meanwhile, stay healthy, stay fit, and we look forward to seeing everyone’s smiling faces on the trails soon!
