NEIGHBOURHOOD DUTIES IN MACAU🇲🇴

A full team of six Hong Kong officials spent this weekend across the bay in Macau, appointed to officiate The Singapore-Macau Men’s Hockey Match Series (5–6 September 2026)!

It’s always a privilege to support regional development and work alongside our neighboring hockey associations. Flying the flag at the technical table and out on the pitch were:

Dear Umpires and TPs,

HockeyHK Umpires’ Section is pleased to announce that the Umpire Refresher Course 2026-2027 will be held from 28 August to 16 September 2026. Both Umpires and TPs are welcome to attend.

Below are the details for the upcoming refresher courses.

(A) 28 Aug 2026 (Fri) 1930 KP (Conference room) (Cantonese)

(B) 3 Sep 2026 (Thu) 1930 KP (Conference room) (English)

(C) 8 Sep 2026 (Tue) 1930 KP (Conference room) (Cantonese)

(D) 16 Sep 2026 (Wed) 1930 HKFC (English)

To register for the refresher course, please complete the online registration form:

Please note that all umpires are required to complete an annual registration process.

For the annual registration process, you MUST

(i) pay the annual registration fee ($200) to 658-117619-838 (HSBC) and upload your bank-in receipt to the registration form with your full name and umpire number written on it (TPs are not required to make this payment)
(ii) attend at least one refresher course.

If you fail to complete this annual registration process, you will become an “Inactive Member” and you are not allowed to officiate any hockey games held in Hong Kong.

If you have been listed as “Inactive Member” for two seasons or more, you will be deregistered from the HockeyHKUS membership list.

Notes for online registration form:

1. Registered Club (Umpire Duties): each umpire should register with a club. This may not necessarily be the club he/she plays for. If an umpire does not register with any club, he/she can only do appointed duties, but not any club duty.

2. There will be four Refresher Courses scheduled in August and September. You are required to attend at least one of them. Prior online registration is a MUST. You may only register for ONE of them. There will be a quota of 40 for each refresher course. You will be put on the waiting list if the course is FULL. Anyone who has registered for one refresher course but fails to attend for any reason, may register for another course, but will only be put on the waiting list.

3. Please note that in addition to submitting the online registration form, you should also update the personal information on your Website account at https://www.hockey.org.hk.

All TPs are required to complete the registration form and attend at least one refresher course, otherwise you will lose your TP status.

You shall be notified via email before the scheduled dates whether you have successfully registered or not.

A massive round of applause for Jeff Chan 👏, who has officially wrapped up his time at the Hockey Australia U18 National Championships in Darwin! 🇦🇺

Jeff is heading back to Hong Kong with a whistle full of invaluable experience gained from officiating high-level, fast-paced Australian hockey.

Confidence vs Compliant…

This is the sort of post that tells you more about the person posting it than the officiating.

Ryan Hawks has confidently declared this a foul throw... from a single frozen frame.

The problem? A still image cannot tell you whether both feet were on or above the ground at the moment of release, whether the ball came from behind and over the head, or what actually happened during the throwing motion. That's why referees don't officiate football from screenshots.

If you're going to criticise officials on the biggest stage in world football, at least use evidence that proves your point. Instead, Ryan has managed to make himself look like someone who doesn't understand the very law he's trying to lecture everyone else about.

It's a reminder that confidence and competence are not the same thing. Sometimes the loudest critics are simply advertising how little they know.

NO DAYS OFF: RAIN OR SHINE, WE TEST OURSELVES! 🌧️🏃‍♀️🏃

The international cycle is fast approaching, and our team hit the track to smash out their mandatory fitness tests in some seriously heavy rain. As the third team on the pitch, we have to match the fitness of top-tier athletes—no matter what the weather throws at us!

Massive credit to everyone who showed up, dug deep, and proved that a little (or a lot!) of rain won't stop us from getting tournament-ready.

“Gid-Day” to our very own Jeff Chan, who has officially touched down in Darwin, Australia 🇦🇺 getting ready for his brekkie!

Jeff will be representing Hong Kong for the upcoming Hockey Australia U18 National Championships as an Umpire. He will be supported by top class officials from all over Australia.
