In 1993, Kawasaki Yomiuri (Verdy Kawasaki; now known as Tokyo Verdy) entered Japan’s professional football league (J.League) in its inaugural season. That year, the team’s roster was exceptionally strong—almost entirely made up of the core players of Japan’s national team along with top-tier foreign signings: Miura Kazuyoshi, Ryu Ramos, Tsuyoshi Kitazawa, Takeda Nobuhiro, Tetsuji Hashiratani, Bismarck and Shinkichi Kikuchi, among others. With their overwhelming strength, they won both the first J.League championship and the J.League Cup, establishing themselves as the absolute dominant force in Japanese football at the time.

Fan Zhiyi suffered a serious injury on the eve of the 2002 World Cup (the Japan/Korea tournament), during which an MRI confirmed that his ligament was completely torn. Determined to achieve his dream of playing on the World Cup stage, he refused to give up. He ultimately forced himself to take the field with his ankle tightly bound and immobilized with bandages.

In the first group-stage match, China faced Costa Rica. Fan was named in the starting lineup. In the first half, he repeatedly managed to make successful interceptions. However, due to the severity of his injury, he was substituted off in the 65th minute—his final appearance at the World Cup.

After the 2002 World Cup, at the age of 33, Fan Zhiyi officially announced his retirement from the national team.

Mizuno Morelia 系列最初於 1985 年 正式面世。其研發工作最早可追溯至 1983 年，由被譽為「Morelia 之父」的設計師安井敏也（Toshiyasu Yasui）主導。

當時第一位在巴西職業聯賽效力的日本球員水島武藏（Musashi Mizushima）向研發團隊透露，巴西球員渴望一雙「極致輕量、柔軟、甚至能輕鬆塞進西裝口袋」的球鞋。 安井敏也以此為靈感，以 「輕量、靈活、天然赤足感」（Barefoot-feeling）為三大核心理念進行開發。第一代原型鞋單隻重量僅約 245 克，在 1980 年代充斥著厚重鞋款的市場中是一項驚人的科技突破。

研發團隊當時的首要任務是讓這雙鞋趕上 1986 年墨西哥世界盃。「Morelia」這個名字正是致敬墨西哥的主辦城市莫雷利亞（Morelia）。

Mizuno’s Morelia series was first officially released in 1985. Its development dates back as early as 1983, led by designer Toshiyasu Yasui, who is widely known as the “Father of Morelia.”

At the time, the first Japanese player to play in Brazil’s professional league, Musashi Mizushima, told the development team that Brazilian players wanted a boot that was “ultralight, soft, and so comfortable it could even be tucked into a suit pocket.” Inspired by this, Yasui focused on three key principles: lightweight, agility, and a “barefoot-feeling” sensation. The prototype from the first generation reportedly weighed only about 245 grams per shoe—an astonishing technological breakthrough in the 1980s, when most footwear in the market was bulky and heavy.

The team’s top priority then was to have the shoe ready for the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. The name “Morelia” itself was chosen as a tribute to Morelia, the host city in Mexico.

When the first-generation Morelia was released in 1985, the sides of the boot introduced Mizuno’s new “RunBird” (running bird) galaxy-style streamlined logo—an element Mizuno had just started using on its running shoes. Before this, Mizuno’s trademark was mainly a simple “M.” The success of Morelia helped bring the RunBird logo to worldwide recognition, establishing it as one of the brand’s most iconic visual symbols.

At the 1986 FIFA World Cup, Brazilian legend Careca wore the newly introduced Morelia boots—featuring a black upper with a white RunBird logo—and dominated on the pitch. He scored five goals and won the Silver Boot. This on-field achievement made Morelia famous on the world stage, cementing the series’ long-standing reputation as the “kangaroo-leather boot king,” a title it has maintained for more than 40 years.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of its core and legendary football boot series, Morelia—released in 2015—Mizuno specially created this commemorative reissue model.

On December 3, 2002, Real Madrid faced Paraguayan champions Olimpia in the Intercontinental Cup (Toyota Cup) final at Yokohama International Stadium in Japan. Ronaldo put the European giants ahead in the 14th minute, finishing from inside the penalty area after a pass from teammate Roberto Carlos.

Guti replaced Ronaldo at the 82nd minute, and just two minutes later—at 84 minutes—he doubled the lead with a second strike to effectively seal the victory. Real Madrid went on to win the match 2–0, with Brazilian forward Ronaldo Nazário named Man of the Match (MVP).

可惜在1996年歐洲國家盃，他經歷了球員生涯中最慘痛的經歷，也是最為人所熟知的事件。

1996年6月26日，主辦國英格蘭在倫敦溫布萊球場與死敵德國爭奪決賽席位。雙方在法定時間及加時賽後打成 1-1 平手。進入互射十二碼階段，雙方前5輪球員全部射入（英格蘭入球者包括舒利亞、柏列、皮雅斯、加斯居尼和舒靈咸）。在突然死亡階段的第6輪，修夫基主射，可惜他射出的十二碼角度欠佳且顯得乏力，被德國門將高普基撲出。隨後德國球員慕拿一蹴而就，英格蘭以總比數 6-7 飲恨四強止步。

In 1996, Gareth Southgate was only 25, still playing his club football for Aston Villa, and given the chance to prove himself under England manager Terry Venables. He slotted into a strong defensive partnership with the team captain, Tony Adams, and for the most part, he looked calm, composed, and reliable.

Then came Euro 1996—the moment from Southgate’s playing days that remains the most heartbreaking, and also the most unforgettable.

On 26 June 1996, England—playing at Wembley as hosts—took on their longtime rivals, Germany, with a place in the final on the line. The match was locked at 1–1 after 90 minutes and extra time. That meant penalties. The first five kickers from each side all scored for England, with Alan Shearer, David Platt, Stuart Pearce, Paul Gascoigne, and Terry Sheringham on target.

In sudden death, Southgate took his penalty—but it lacked the right angle and didn’t have the power he needed. Germany goalkeeper Andreas Köpke made the save.
