A Community Built Around Diving 🌎

September has been another great month at UDC, with Divemaster trainees, Instructor candidates and dive professionals from around the world all sharing the dive center and bringing their own energy to the team. 🤿

Our General Staff Meetings are always a great reminder of what makes this community so special. Everyone arrives with a different story, different professional and personal backgrounds, and different goals for where diving might take them next. Put everyone together, and it creates an atmosphere where there is always someone new to learn from, dive with and share the experience with. 🙌

Our trainees become a real part of daily life at UDC, and their enthusiasm, personalities and fresh perspectives play a huge role in the energy around the dive center each season. 🌊

🌊 All the Way to Master Freediver!

A huge congratulations to Hannah 🇿🇦, who absolutely smashed her way through the AIDA freediving pathway with GoFREE Program Lead Catalina 🇦🇷, progressing through AIDA 1, AIDA 2, AIDA 3 and all the way to AIDA 4 Master Freediver! 🤿

Each level introduces greater depth, more advanced techniques, stronger safety and rescue skills, and increasingly challenging performance requirements. Hannah kept building with every session, challenging her personal bests and developing the control, confidence and knowledge required to reach Master Freediver level. 💪

It’s been fantastic watching that progression from the fundamentals right through to advanced freediving and seeing just how far consistent training can take you! 🌊

New Skills. New Depths. 🤿

Congratulations to Raphael and Uwe on completing their TEC training with GoTEC Instructor Freddie! Plenty of focus, practice, and preparation goes into this achievement, and it’s a milestone worth celebrating. 👏

TEC courses build on your recreational diving skills with more complex dive planning, gas management, specialised equipment, and carefully planned decompression. With a direct ascent to the surface no longer an option on decompression dives, there’s a greater emphasis on backup systems, emergency drills, and working precisely as a team. Every part of the preparation has a purpose.

At UDC, you’ll develop those skills in small training groups with personalised guidance from our expert GoTEC instructor! Add the island’s spectacular walls and deep-water sites, and you’ve got an incredible setting to put your training into practice. 🌊

Take a Closer Look 🪸🔍

It’s easy to look at a coral reef and see one enormous, colorful structure. Get a little closer, though, and there’s an entire world hiding in the details.

Corals are actually animals. Each colony is made up of hundreds or even thousands of tiny individual animals called polyps, living together and building the calcium carbonate skeleton that forms the reef structures we dive around every day.

Look closely and you can start to see those individual polyps, their tiny tentacles, intricate patterns and the incredible variety between different coral species. What looks like a single formation from a distance suddenly becomes something much more complex. 🤿

It’s one of our favorite things about slowing down underwater. There’s always more to discover when you know where, and how, to look.

Inside the Divemaster Journey ⚓

Tani 🇦🇺, Christian 🇩🇰, and David 🇬🇧 have been part of the UDC Divemaster Program, getting hands-on experience with the practical side of professional dive training.

Every dive day brings something different: student support, boat organization, dive briefings, group awareness, and the small details that help everything run safely and smoothly. 🤿

🤿 One Breath at a Time

A big congratulations to Jayden and Stephanie on completing their AIDA Freediver training with GoFREE Program Lead, Catalina! 🌊

Freediving brings a completely different way of experiencing the ocean. Throughout their training, Jayden and Stephanie worked on relaxation, breath control, technique and safety, gradually becoming more comfortable beneath the surface and discovering just how much can be achieved on a single breath. 🫧

It’s all about progression at your own pace, celebrating those personal milestones, and developing skills and confidence that open up an entirely new way to explore the underwater world.

One Spot Just Opened Up in the Philippines! 🇵🇭

A space has become available in a Twin Cabin aboard the Philippine Siren for our next UDC on Tour adventure, running from February 12th to 22nd, 2027!

We’ll spend 10 nights exploring Southern Leyte, the Visayas, and Malapascua, with colorful reefs, incredible marine life, and the chance to dive with Malapascua’s famous thresher sharks. 🦈

With a fantastic liveaboard, an exciting variety of dive sites, and accessible diving requiring only an Advanced Open Water certification, this is an incredible opportunity to explore the Philippines alongside the UDC community.

🎓 Still Celebrating, but Already Onto What’s Next!

We’re still celebrating our September IDC graduates, but for many of our newest PADI Instructors, the training doesn’t stop at graduation! 🤿🙌

The next step is our MSDT Prep Program, where instructors continue developing their skills by earning Specialty Instructor ratings and assisting on real PADI courses alongside our experienced team. It’s a chance to take everything learned during the IDC and start putting it into practice with actual students. 💪

Becoming an instructor opens the door to plenty of different opportunities, and continued training and hands-on teaching experience helps prepare our new Instructors to make the most of wherever diving takes them next. 🌎

At UDC, our focus on professional development continues well beyond the Instructor Examinations, with mentorship, experience, and opportunities to keep growing as a dive professional.
