In 1939, the Delnice Mountaineering Association began construction of the mountain lodge at the site of the current hotel. To accommodate the international sports competition, the Kurikkala Cup in 1962, an annex was built along with the first ski lifts and ski runs. Skiers had access to three slopes, with a total length of over 6000m. Up until 1986, when it closed due to dilapidation, Petehovac was the very cornerstone of tourism in Gorski Kotar, especially for Delnice. The completely devastated buildings and lifts were demolished in 1998 and the surrounding derelict land cleared to allow for the construction of the new sports and recreation ski center. Present:
The new ski lodge opened on Dec. 26 2004 and offers a modern ski lift with day and night skiing in the winter and is open year round with numerous paths, a nice hotel and restaurant. In 2013, the annex was restored to create additional accommodation and further recreation facilities are to come. Places of Interest:
Jagodina stijena (Jagoda's cliff), the basis for Magdic’s 1934 legend about a girl who commits su***de over lost love, is just a five-minute walk from the lodge. Polane (950 m), meaning the pastures, is today a weekend resort, but in the past it used to be a summer settlement for the people of Delnice, who bred their livestock and farmed the land in a traditional migratory manner.
