3 TALKING POINTS FROM NKWAZI HORROR SHOW
New season, same old Green Buffaloes. ⚽ The problems that have plagued our team since it became an unwritten requirement to have international talent on the squad were still evident as we succumbed to Nkwazi by a single goal to nil in the Lusaka derby.
1. WE NEED A UEFA PRO LICENSED HEAD COACH
Yet again dreadful game management from our unlicensed coaches. ⚽ Far too often, their tactical ineptitude is left exposed and made to look second rate (which is being kind) and we have appeared far too shaky on and off the ball in recent games.
Teams have utterly terrorized our defense week in, week out and it looks as though we are going to bottle it having been top of the table for quite a while.
If we play like this in CAF competitions, we are going to be murdered. ⚽ Against Nkwazi, we offered precious little going forward and were often caught out by the high press, forcing our players into countless stupid mistakes.
Our team's need for a UEFA Pro Licensed head coach has been evident for the past 10 to 15 years and it is beyond the realm of imagination as to why our board has been so weak as to overlook this.
2. WE ARE A COUPLE OF INTERNATIONAL STARS AWAY FROM SUCCESS
With our local players constantly found wanting and guilty of poor positional play on many occasions, it is quite clear that the team is in dire need of a few international superstars.
CAF will be a different animal altogether. ⚽ The well choreographed movements of Arab forward lines will rip our team to shreds. ⚽ With teams across the country and continent constantly progressing as well as moving with the times, it could get very ugly for our team.
We absolutely need to throw our primitive local-only policy out the window because at is clearly our worst enemy and the biggest threat to our success.
3. WE SHOULD BE USING OUR INDEPENDENCE STADIUM FOR HOME GAMES
The importance of getting our Independence Stadium ready for Zambian Super League games has not been sufficiently appreciated by our incompetent board for it to be integrated into the seasonal budget. ⚽ There is no doubt that the development of our stadium could also play a critical role in hosting major tournaments.
As an army-sponsored club, we are expected to know this. Football is an area of human interaction where respect for rules, teamwork and fair play are the norm.
Teamwork, cooperation, abiding by the rules, respect for opponents and similar concepts all feature in the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
Despite the importance of football in Zambia, development of stadiums is an area which is underdeveloped and underfunded. ⚽ Moreover, Zambian football has suffered from scandal, corruption and marginalization. ⚽ Failure to utilize our Independence Stadium has prevented our team from taking its rightful place at the pinnacle of African football because we have simply been deprived of home advantage.
