Budapest Bats Australian Football Club

Last weekend we made the trip across to Vienna for the next round of the Empire Cup.

Half of us taking the universally beloved Regiojet and the other hitting the road to meet for what would be the final time before finals.

On the field the results didn’t go our way, outplayed by stronger opposition in Vienna and Nysa. We’ll pick up the pieces and look ahead to the Grand Final in 6 weeks time in Nysa.

Congratulations to Jules for best on ground with his hard tackling efforts, celebrating with an obligatory shoey. And a special mention to Chris for putting in a more than competitive effort in full back while nursing a severely sore knee!

Thanks to Vienna for doing a great job of hosting as always and a great afterparty.

Next round is in Nysa for the Empire Cup Grand Final in September!

Múlt hétvégén Bécsbe utaztunk az Empire Cup következő fordulójára. A csapat fele a mindenki által kedvelt RegioJettel érkezett, míg a többiek autóval vágtak neki az útnak, hogy még egyszer együtt lépjünk pályára az idény döntője előtt.

A pályán sajnos nem alakultak úgy az eredmények, ahogy szerettük volna. A bécsi és a nysai csapat ezúttal jobbnak bizonyult nálunk. Levonjuk a tanulságokat, összeszedjük magunkat, és már a hat hét múlva esedékes nagydöntőre készülünk Nysában.

Gratulálunk Jules-nak, aki kemény szereléseivel kiérdemelte a mérkőzés legjobb játékosa címet, amit természetesen egy kötelező shoey-jal ünnepelt meg!

Külön elismerés Chrisnek is, aki súlyosan fájó térddel is kiváló teljesítményt nyújtott full back pozícióban, és végig remekül helytállt.

A következő forduló az Empire Cup nagydöntője lesz szeptemberben, Nysában!

Last Saturday we braved one of the hottest days on record in Budapest to play out the third round of the Empire Cup.

Getting started early the mercury was already pushing 30 degrees by 9am, big props to the players from all the teams for pushing through and adjusting with the difficult conditions.

A massive congratulations to the Bats best on ground for the day Atilla Gáspár for his solid efforts in defence and up forward, highlighted with his running effort where after kicking the ball forward from the middle of the ground he ran and gathered his own ball, kicking it forward again, before running and laying a successful tackle in front of the goal.

While the results didn't go our way the Bats showed great plays in patches throughout the matches and will take valuable lessons from them.

Thank you as always to Prague and Vienna for making the trip across to Budapest, we look forward to facing off again soon
