Official Statement on the rescheduling of the 23rd HunGarian Baja:

Yesterday, we were deeply saddened to learn of the wildfires affecting the Várpalota area. In light of this extraordinary situation, we have had to make the difficult but responsible decision not to hold the 23rd HunGarian Baja on its originally scheduled dates of 13–15 August 2026.

The safety of everyone involved, as well as the situation currently affecting the region, was our foremost consideration. We firmly believe that, under the present circumstances, postponing the event was the only appropriate and responsible course of action.

Over the past 24 hours, our organising team has been working tirelessly to identify a new date for the event as soon as possible, thereby offering the registered competitors and teams another opportunity to race.

When considering a new date, we carefully reviewed the calendars of the major international cross-country rally series, including the European Cup, the World Cup and the W2RC. Our objective was to avoid a clash with other prominent events and enable as many Hungarian and international competitors as possible to join us. We also took the expected weather and track conditions into account to ensure that the event can be held safely and to the high professional standards associated with the HunGarian Baja.

We are determined to make the best of this exceptionally challenging situation. Our team is working to ensure that the 23rd HunGarian Baja returns on an even larger scale and as an even more prestigious event. We have informed the FIA of our intentions and initiated the necessary discussions with the federation.

The new provisional date for the 23rd HunGarian Baja is early november 2026. (The organisers reserve the right to make further changes).

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the competitors, teams, volunteers, organisers and everyone involved for their understanding, patience and continued support. We sincerely hope to welcome as many of you as possible back to the HunGarian Baja on its new date.

Hivatalos közlemény a 23. HunGarian Baja új időpontjáról:

A tegnapi nap folyamán sajnálattal és megrendüléssel értesültünk a Várpalota környéki tűzesetekről. A rendkívüli helyzetre tekintettel nehéz, ugyanakkor felelős döntést kellett meghoznunk: a 23. HunGarian Baja az eredetileg tervezett időpontban, 2026. augusztus 13-15. között nem kerül megrendezésre.

A döntés során mindenekelőtt a biztonságot és a térségben kialakult helyzetet tartottuk szem előtt és meggyőződésünk, hogy a jelenlegi körülmények között ez volt az egyetlen helyes és felelős döntés.

Az elmúlt 24 órában szervezőcsapatunk azon dolgozott, hogy mielőbb új időpontot találjon a rendezvénynek, és ezzel újabb versenyzési lehetőséget biztosítson a nevezett versenyzők és csapatok számára.

Az új időpont meghatározásakor gondosan összehangoltuk a HunGarian Baja programját a nemzetközi tereprallye sorozatok – köztük az Európa-kupa, a Világkupa és a W2RC – versenynaptárával. Olyan időpontot választottunk, amely nem ütközik más kiemelt futammal, így a lehető legtöbb hazai és nemzetközi versenyző számára biztosíthatjuk a részvétel lehetőségét. Döntésünk során az időjárási és pályaviszonyokat is mérlegeltük annak érdekében, hogy a versenyt biztonságosan, a HunGarian Bajától megszokott magas szakmai színvonalon rendezhessük meg.

A kialakult, rendkívül nehéz helyzetből szeretnénk a lehető legtöbbet kihozni. Azon dolgozunk, hogy a 23. HunGarian Baja az új időpontban még nagyobb volumenű, még rangosabb eseményként térhessen vissza. E szándékunkról az FIA-t is tájékoztattuk, és megkezdtük az ehhez szükséges egyeztetéseket a szövetséggel.

Ezúton is köszönjük a versenyzők, a csapatok, az önkéntesek, a szervezők és valamennyi közreműködő megértését, türelmét és támogatását. Bízunk benne, hogy az új időpontban minél többükkel találkozhatunk ismét.

„A HunGarian Baja egy tradíció. Immár 23 éve!
Az első gyermekem, akire nagyon vigyázok, és akire mindennap büszke vagyok – akkor is, ha jó, és akkor is, ha rossz!

Sokaknak felejthetetlenül szép pillanatokat adott ez a verseny, másoknak viszont leküzdhetetlen kihívást jelentett.

Veletek együtt vált azzá, ami ma!

Köszönöm az eddigi bizalmatokat, és arra kérlek benneteket, hogy most maradjatok erősek, és álljatok ki mellettünk!

Ez a tradíció és a barátságunk nem veszhet kárba!

Kérlek, fogadjátok megértéssel a döntésünket, mert a mai katasztrófa után ez maradt az egyetlen lehetőségünk.

Megszakad a szívünk, de a jeleket észre kell vennünk, és nem hagyhatjuk figyelmen kívül az itt élők biztonságát – legyen szó emberről, állatról vagy növényről.

A tradícióhoz az is hozzátartozik, hogy alázattal viszonyulunk másokhoz és a sportunkhoz. A mai döntésünk esélyt ad arra, hogy később folytatódhasson ez a legendás verseny.

Most, hogy ennyien rám figyeltek, szeretném megköszönni a teljes rendezői, média- és pályaépítő csapatom, valamint minden segítő és résztvevő munkáját is! Rajtatok ismét nem múlott a sikeres és élvezetes rendezvény! Imádlak benneteket!

„The HunGarian Baja is a tradition. For 23 years now! My first child, which I take great care of and am proud of every day, in good times and in bad!

This race has given many people unforgettable, beautiful moments, while for others it has represented an insurmountable challenge.

Together with you, it has become what it is today!

Thank you for your trust so far, and I ask you to remain strong now and stand by us!

This tradition and our friendship must not go to waste!

Please accept our decision with understanding, because after today’s disaster, this was the only option left to us.

Our hearts are breaking, but we must recognise the signs, and we cannot ignore the safety of those who live here - whether human, animal or plant.

Part of this tradition is also that we approach others and our sport with humility. Today’s decision gives us a chance for this legendary race to continue at a later date.

Now that so many of you are paying attention, I would like to thank my entire organizing, media, and course-building teams, as well as every helper and participant, for their hard work! Once again, you did everything in your power to make the event successful and enjoyable! I love you all!

Dear Competitors,

It is with great regret that we announce a difficult but necessary decision regarding the HunGarian Baja.

Over recent years, the Municipality of Várpalota and Mayor Márta Campanari-Talabér have provided invaluable support to the event. This year’s HunGarian Baja was set to bring competitors, officials, spectators and motorsport enthusiasts together in Várpalota for the seventh time. We are immensely proud of what we have built together, which makes today’s decision all the more difficult.

Earlier today, two serious fires broke out on the outskirts of Várpalota and in the surrounding area, in extremely close proximity to the competition venue. Several hundred hectares of grassland and woodland have been affected, and the fires have also spread to buildings. Firefighters remain at the scene, while the affected areas and any potential hotspots continue to be closely monitored.

The situation has been further compounded by the extreme temperatures of recent weeks and the prolonged lack of rainfall over the past several months, resulting in an exceptionally high fire risk throughout the region.

In light of today’s events, and following consultations with the relevant authorities and emergency services, we have jointly decided that the HunGarian Baja will not take place as scheduled. The event will be postponed to a later date, which has yet to be confirmed.

We fully recognise the considerable inconvenience and disruption this decision will cause. Many competitors are travelling from abroad and have spent months preparing for the event. The organisers, teams, officials, partners, volunteers and supporters have also invested an extraordinary amount of time, effort and commitment in making the weekend possible.

Nevertheless, no sporting event - regardless of its significance - can take precedence over human life, public safety and the protection of the natural environment. Just as we have worked together to build an exceptional event, we must now demonstrate the same unity and shared sense of responsibility in responding to these extraordinary circumstances.

We have a duty of care towards our competitors, spectators, officials, volunteers, local residents and everyone involved in the event. We also have a responsibility to protect the surrounding environment. Under the current conditions, we cannot accept the possibility that staging the rally could - even unintentionally - increase the risk of further fires or environmental damage.

We deeply regret that circumstances have led to this outcome. We understand that, for many of you, the HunGarian Baja represents far more than a single competition: it is the culmination of an entire year of preparation, hard work and anticipation.

We sincerely thank you for your understanding, patience and support for this responsible decision during such a challenging time. Further information regarding the rescheduled date will be communicated as soon as it becomes available.

At this moment, the rally must take second place. Our immediate priority is to ensure everyone’s safety and to protect the environment that will enable us to compete together again in the future.

Kedves versenyzők!

Nehéz, ugyanakkor felelős döntést kellett meghoznunk.

Várpalota Város Önkormányzata és Campanari-Talabér Márta polgármester asszony az elmúlt években jelentős támogatással állt a HunGarian Baja terep-rally verseny mellett, amely immár hetedik alkalommal készülne összehozni a versenyzőket, a szakembereket, a nézőket és a motorsport szerelmeseit. Büszkék vagyunk arra, amit közösen felépítettünk, és pontosan ezért különösen nehéz számunkra a mostani döntés.

A mai napon Várpalota külterületén és a várostól nem messze, a verseny helyszínéhez rendkívül közel két súlyos tűzeset is történt. A tüzek több szász hektárnyi füves-fás területet érintettek, és épületekre is átterjedtek. A helyszínen a tűzoltók jelenleg is dolgoznak, illetve a területet és az esetleges gócpontokat folyamatosan ellenőrzik.

Mindezt tovább súlyosbítja az elmúlt hetek rendkívüli hősége és a hónapok óta tartó csapadékhiány, amely következtében a környezet jelenleg fokozottan tűzveszélyes.

A mai események és a szakemberekkel történt egyeztetés után ezért közösen arra a döntésre jutottunk, hogy a tervezett rallyversenyt nem rendezzük meg, hanem egy későbbi, egyelőre nem ismert időpontra halasztjuk.

Tudjuk, hogy ez rendkívül kellemetlen és komoly nehézséget jelent. Sokan közületek külföldről érkeznek, hónapok óta készülnek a versenyre, és a szervezők, a csapatok, a partnerek és a szurkolók is rengeteg munkát fektettek abba, hogy ez a hétvége megvalósulhasson.

Mégis úgy gondoljuk, hogy egy nagyszerű élmény sem előzheti meg az emberi élet, a biztonság és a természet védelmét. Ahogy a jóban közösen fogtunk össze azért, hogy létrehozzunk valami nagyszerűt, úgy a nehéz helyzetben is közösen kell felelősséget vállalnunk és meghoznunk a helyes döntést. Felelősséggel tartozunk a versenyzők, a nézők, a szervezők és a környéken élők biztonságáért, valamint a természet megóvásáért. A jelenlegi körülmények között pedig nem vállalhatjuk annak kockázatát, hogy egy verseny miatt - akaratlanul - újabb tűzeset vagy természeti katasztrófa kialakulásának lehetőségét teremtsük meg.

Nagyon sajnáljuk, hogy így alakult. Tudjuk, hogy sokak számára ez nem csupán egy verseny, hanem egy egész éves munka, felkészülés és várakozás eredménye. Köszönjük a megértéseteket, a türelmeteket és mindenekelőtt azt, hogy ebben a nehéz helyzetben ti is a felelős döntés mellett álltok.

Most nem a verseny a legfontosabb. Hanem az, hogy mindenki biztonságban hazatérjen, és megőrizzük azt a környezetet, amelynek köszönhetően a jövőben újra együtt versenyezhetünk.
