World RX podium-finisher Krisztian Szabo will race an RX5 (Cross Car) in the Rallycross World Cup.

The 2016-17 Euro RX3 (Super1600) Champion also has three European Autocross titles to his name, along with three seasons of racing in World RX, finishing on the podium at Spa and Nurburgring in 2021 with the GRX-SET squad.

Having returned Volland Racing to finish on the RX3 podium at Nyirad in 2024, he will now make his maiden rallycross start in Cross Car machinery in Jakarta, Indonesia in December.

“Since I’ve known about the World Cup, I’ve wanted to take part,” he said. “As there is no RX3 category, it came to my mind that I could try RX5. I was European Champion in Autocross and it’s pretty close to RX5, so I’m really looking forward to sit back into a Cross Car and to race with Volland Racing again. I have some great memories with the team.

I don’t know what to expect, I plan to do some tests and I hope to have some great fights, somewhere in the front. I think it will be a great event and I wanted to be part of it because it will be historic.”

This weekend Euro RX joins the list of rallycross series to run under floodlights and the cover of darkness.

World RX ran into the dark at Abu Dhabi in 2019, while the French and British Championships are among the domestic series to hold night events each year.

16-year-old Finnish Champion! 🇫🇮

Pauli Turpeinen, the younger brother of Euro RX contender Joni, claimed the Finnish Rallycross Championship title in the final round to conclude his maiden Supercar campaign.

While Euro RX Reds RX driver Juha Rytkonen scored a return victory at Jalasjarvi, Turpeinen did enough in qualifying to put the title out of reach of rival Joni-Pekka Rajala, then drove to finish second in the final. Tuomas Skantz, the owner of the winning Skoda Fabia, completed the podium in a GRX-developed Hyundai i20 RX and finished the year third in the standings.

Driving a STARD-built Ford Fiesta, Turpeinen remarkable first campaign included three victories, and missing the first round of the campaign at Hyvinkaa.

Speaking in the FIA media session, 8-time World RX title winner Johan Kristoffersson explained:
“It’s been it’s been a tricky weekend. It’s been a lot of headwind coming out. I mean, I think I took two starts over the weekend and in rallycross that’s the part of the game that you also have to be good, in the starts. It’s not enough to have great pace on track and our competitors have done a better job than us on that. We haven’t prepared well enough and we don’t deserve more. In the end I think we should be happy to be one point behind going into the final race of the year.”

World RX event-winner Juha Rytkonen will stay match-fit ahead of the Euro RX finale in Portugal next week by racing a Skoda Fabia Supercar in the Finnish RX finale this weekend.

Rytkonen, who finished on the podium at Loheac last weekend and is in a battle for third in the Euro RX standings, will race a Tuomas Skantz-owned Skoda Fabia at Jalasjarvi.

Skantz raced the car in the opening round of the Finnish series this year at Hyvinkaa before switching to a Finnish Rally Experience-owned Hyundai i20 RX.

16-year-old Pauli Turpeinen leads the Finnish RX points standings heading into the finale, when dropped scores are taken into account.
