Have you ever noticed the urge to move faster when an exercise starts to feel difficult?
It’s a very common instinct. When the body loses stability, speeding up feels easier because momentum starts doing the work.
In Pilates, that’s exactly what we try to avoid.
On the reformer, slower movement forces your body to stay organized. Your core has to stabilize the spine, your smaller muscles have to support the movement, and you stay connected to your breath throughout the exercise.
A good rule we often share in class: if you feel the movement speeding up, slow it down and return to control.
Slow and controlled movement always.
Strength in Pilates is built through precision and consistency. The slower you move with intention, the more your body actually learns. 🤍
