Golden or Emerald? Let’s talk about seasons at Ocean Mantra.

From May to December, East Sumbawa turns gold. Sun-baked hills roll down to a brilliant blue sea. The skies stay clear and the light is cinematic from sunrise to sunset.

💛 This is our Golden Season.

Then the rains arrive, and within weeks the island transforms. Fresh grass sweeps across the hills, the valleys glow green, and Sumbawa becomes a completely different world: lush, wild and tropical.

💚 This is our Emerald Season.

And rain here doesn’t mean grey days. Tropical showers roll in fast and clear just as quickly, leaving behind dramatic skies, cool fresh air and greens so deep they look unreal.

So which season is better?

Neither. That’s the point.

Golden Sumbawa is raw, sunlit and elemental.
Emerald Sumbawa is vibrant, alive and breathtaking.

One place. Two completely different experiences.

Birdwatching, whether you planned it or not 👀

Ocean Mantra seems to have become something of a bird residence — for both permanent locals and those just passing through.

Kingfishers flash blue along the coast, eagles circle above the cliffs, frigatebirds glide over the bay, swallows sweep past the restaurant, and many other birds fill the space with song from sunrise onwards.

We stopped trying to identify them all a long time ago. There are simply too many.

So yes, come for the retreat. But don’t be surprised if birdwatching quietly becomes part of the experience.

What style of yoga do you teach at Ocean Mantra?

〰️ In the morning, we practice Hatha yoga with elements of Vinyasa — a more active flow to awaken the body and build energy for the day.

〰️ In the evening, we slow down with Restorative and Yin yoga — softer practices to release tension and settle more deeply into the body.

Both sessions are always beginner-friendly and adapted to the people in the group — their experience, energy and needs on that particular day.

We believe the practice should meet people where they are — not force them into a fixed form. It is there to support the journey — not to become another set of rules to follow 📿
