Mangrove forests can be found in tropical areas and play a crucial role in protecting the shoreline against storms and hurricanes. Unfortunately, this unique biotope is endangered in most regions where it grows.

👉 40% of the worlds mangroves are located in only four countries: Indonesia, Brazil and Nigeria.

👉 We have 4 species of mangrove in Quintana Roo: Red, Black, White and Button.

💡 In the photo,
captured me swimming under the roots of a red mangrove forest where the light made its way through a gap in the roots, creating a beautiful beam. In the back, the cavern entrance to a network of naturally formed passages among walls of roots and sediment.

Mangroves are essential to the survival of other coastal ecosystems and coastal communities as well as coral reefs. Learning more about mangroves leads to understanding how critical it is to protect them as an effort to adapt and fight climate change.
