It surprises you how your dives change once you start learning about corals.

You stop seeing the reef as one big colourful background and begin noticing details. You surface and realize you don't even remember seeing fish - just like you didn't remember corals before.

That is the beauty of learning coral ID.
Every dive feels better, because suddenly the reef is no longer just beautiful - it starts making sense.

The Ocean Gardener Coral ID courses are made for exactly that. They help you understand what you are looking at and experience the reef with completely different eyes.

Now also available in Pemuteran! 🪸

🪸 11 SPECIES and 95 COLONIES 🪸
spawned before our eyes. And to think that we'd almost given up hope for this cycle after the big disappointment in March.

IT WAS SPEC-TA-CUL-AR.

We almost stopped counting. Only we couldn't, since it's science. 😅

Special thanks to & .udayana for their help.

-- Join us in May for the last coral spawning cycle util October. We think we got the hang of it now! --

When our team was checking for coral spawning this morning, they were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a baby turtle swimming into the wide open ocean for the first time.

This tiny traveler is part of ’s turtle project in Pemuteran. They are giving baby turtles a safer start before they disappear into the big blue. As you can see, they are small, vulnerable, and impossibly determined!

When you’re in Pemuteran, you can visit the turtle hatchery and see these little ones up close.

We’re also incredibly grateful for Reef Seen’s support behind the scenes. Their logistical help has made a real difference in our own coral conservation and citizen science efforts.

You’ve seen coral spawning.
Here’s what you don’t see.

March monitoring
Pemuteran

Funnels.
Night dives.
Sunrise checks.
Everything lined up.

Except the corals.
No spawning.
We still logged it.

Timing.
Conditions.
Observations.

Because this matters too.
This is real monitoring.
Not every window delivers.

We keep going.
April is next.

And here we go again!

December coral spawning monitoring has begun, and today we installed a couple of funnels that will help us see if the corals are having fun while we're not watching 👀

This time around, we focused on Acropora. It releases the biggest eggs (see our reel from spawning in November!).

Excited to work together with our friends at again & huge thanks to for supporting our project by making the logistics a whole lot easier! 🤗

If you're near next week, come dive with us and witness your first coral spawning!

The news can feel pretty heavy, so here’s a dose of good ocean news for a change!

Coastlines are getting cleaner, coral restoration is making real progress, scientists are filming deep-sea giants, and even tiny reef creatures like cuttlefish and clownfish are surprising us with clever tricks for survival. Small wins, big hope - the ocean is full of it 💕

When we Dive Against Debris, we’re not only cleaning up underwater habitats, we’re contributing vital data to the world’s largest underwater citizen science movement. That data drives real change from protecting marine life to influencing policies that prevent trash from entering the ocean in the first place.
