Before we ever descended into the ocean,
he brought the ocean to us.
Before the hiss of regulators, before salt touched our skin, before we learned the language of currents and coral, there was a man standing quietly beside a camera, inviting the world to wonder.
In living rooms dimly lit by television glow, Sir David Attenborough opened a window to another planet hidden beneath our own. A blue world of drifting giants, silent reefs, and creatures that looked like dreams.
For many of us, our first dive did not happen in the sea. It happened in our hearts, in front of our television.
He taught generations to fall in love with places they had never seen. To care for creatures they would never meet. To feel homesick for an ocean they had not yet touched.
And perhaps that is his greatest gift: he made the natural world feel sacred again.
Today, Sir David Attenborough turns 100 years old.
A century of wonder.
A century spent reminding humanity that this Earth does not belong to us, we belong to it.
Some people leave behind achievements.
He leaves behind awe.
And somewhere, in every diver who pauses beneath the surface to simply look around in silence…
a part of his voice still echoes through the deep.
