When to Say “No” as a Diver: A Reminder on Safe Diving Decisions 10/06/2026

When to Say “No” as a Diver - latest Blog Post by AquaMarine Diving - Bali.
One of the earliest and most important lessons in any Open Water Diver course is simple: no diver is ever obliged to dive. This principle is consistent across recreational training agencies and sits at the heart of safe diving practice.
Divers are also taught that a dive can be called at any time if something does not feel right. Whether it is difficulty equalising, nausea, anxiety, or simply a quiet sense of discomfort, divers are encouraged to speak up early using hand signals and follow safe procedures.
In theory, this sounds straightforward.
In reality, saying “no” can sometimes feel like one of the hardest decisions a diver has to make.

A ‘Blue Project by AMD-B’ Update from Nanda, AquaMarine Diving - Bali 2026 Interns.
‘Respecting Marine Life During Diving and Snorkels’

One of the greatest joys of diving and snorkelling is encountering marine life in its natural habitat — whether it’s a sea turtle gliding effortlessly through the water, a school of vibrant reef fish, or an octopus blending seamlessly into its surroundings. These moments are unforgettable precisely because they happen on nature’s terms.

It’s important to remember that we are visitors in their underwater world, and respecting marine life is one of the most important responsibilities of every diver and snorkeller.

Never touch marine animals. While it may seem harmless, touching can cause stress, damage sensitive skin, remove protective mucus layers that help prevent infection, and even transmit diseases. Many marine creatures are far more fragile than they appear, and even a brief contact can cause unintended harm.

Avoid chasing, cornering, or disturbing wildlife for a closer look or photo. When animals feel threatened, they may flee and waste valuable energy needed for feeding, resting, migration, or avoiding predators. Repeated disturbance can also disrupt natural behaviour and affect their wellbeing.

Instead, observe quietly, move slowly, and maintain a respectful distance. Let the animals decide if they want to approach you. Often, the most memorable encounters happen when we are patient and allow nature to unfold.

By practising responsible diving and snorkelling, we help protect fragile marine ecosystems and ensure future generations can enjoy the same incredible underwater experiences.

Take only photos, leave only bubbles, and leave every encounter just as you found it. 💙🐢

"Awesome"
'Aquamarine made it very easy for me to dive at secret bay gillimanuk . It was very difficult to organise locally as many dive shops don't go there anymore, but aqua marine organised the whole thing without any trouble. They even drove four hours from Kuta to meet me at my hotel near the dive site. Gear was great and in good condition and the dive guide was amazing at finding bucket list macro critters. I couldn't recommend these guys highly enough and will definitely use them again.'

Hmmm, Ketut (AMD-B's Senior Dive Guide/Spotter) was at Manta Point and saw this Manta ray with an old fishing hook/line... Not possible to get close enough to remove it :-(

Future Divers Initiative: Scuba Diving Interest Survey 04/06/2026

Welcome to the Future Divers Initiative
SURVEY ON INTEREST IN SCUBA DIVING
This survey aims to identify potential barriers that prevent younger people from becoming divers. Our goal is to better understand the challenges and opportunities faced by divers of all ages and to identify strategies for encouraging more young enthusiasts to take up diving. Your participation will provide critical information that can guide training agencies and other stakeholders in developing strategies to attract and retain new divers.
The results will be shared with training agencies and industry stakeholders at the Diving Talks 2026 edition, from October 23 to 25 in Lisbon.
Your responses are confidential and will be used solely for research purposes.
We greatly appreciate your time and contribution to this important endeavour. Let's work together to ensure the future vitality and diversity of the European diving community!
