May is so let’s take a deep dive into what exactly makes the Infant Aquatics® Program different from a guided exploration swim lesson. 👇
When we think of swim lessons, we tend to think of guided exploration lessons.
Those classes typically start around ages 3-4, include groups of 4-5 children, and tend to last about 30 minutes.
These classes introduce children to swimming concepts like blowing bubbles, floating on their backs and tummies, and building comfort in the water.
There is no guarantee of completion in these lessons, and there’s no expected timeline for skill acquisition. 🗓️
This means your child may be in lessons for 2, 3, or even more sessions before they can float on their own. But chances are, they’ll still need a little help from their instructor when it comes to getting in and out of a back float. 🤷♀️
That’s very different from learning to respond to an accidental fall or an unexpected event in the water.
Infant Aquatics® lessons are different—in fact, they’re fundamentally different.
⭐️ These lessons are designed specifically for infants, toddlers, and young children.
The Infant Aquatics® curriculum is crafted to align with the developmental milestones of these young swimmers, so each lesson can be tailored to their needs.
✅ These are private lessons, so your child gets the full attention of an expert instructor.
✅ Lessons are based on skill acquisition, so you know exactly what your child will learn when they finish their session!
✅ And your child will learn to use their self-rescue skills in clothes and simulated scenarios, so they can respond to a fall or unexpected water event!
Infant Aquatics® lessons are more than just swim lessons—they’re concentrated, 10-minute pieces of a comprehensive drowning prevention program!
⭐️ It’s time to raise our expectations when it comes to swim lessons!

“Will my child actually learn to swim?” 🤔
We’ve been conditioned to believe that when our children splash around and learn to move their arms and legs in the water, they’re “swimming.”
The truth is, learning to swim is about much more than just moving around in the water—it’s about building a foundation that will last!
If your child doesn’t have the skills needed to navigate the water safely from the very beginning, anything they learn in future lessons is like building a tower on shaky ground.
Self-rescue skills are not just stepping stones but the foundation of all future swimming skills! 👣
⭐️ In just a few weeks, these essential skills can dramatically elevate your child’s competence in the water. They’ll learn to swim and float independently without relying on an instructor to “catch” them. They’ll understand the fundamentals—body position, head orientation, breath control, and even the nuanced muscle movements needed to maintain a float or kick their way forward.
And the best part? They’re able to grasp these concepts before they can even fully articulate them with words. That’s the magic of a program focused on hands-on, tailored guidance for infants and children! 🐣
Students learn what works, what doesn’t, and how to make these critical decisions at a very young age!
⭐️ Imagine your child not only mastering self-rescue skills but becoming a confident swimmer who thrives in the water throughout their childhood. They’re not just self-assured—they’re safe!
👉 So, to answer the burning question—yes, your child will learn to swim! ✨
⭐️ They’ll swim better, safer, and with more confidence because they started with the solid foundation you’ve provided!

🚨Is your child’s swim lesson keeping them safe?
Drowning prevention starts with the right swim lessons, but with so many options out there, how can you ensure your child is not just learning but truly becoming a safe swimmer? Here are 4 must-haves when it comes to your child’s swim lessons:
1️⃣ A Competence-First Approach 🌟
It’s not just about learning to swim; it’s about swimming to survive. Look for a program that prioritizes teaching your child self-rescue skills such as breath control, rolling to their back for air, maintaining an independent back float, and turning over to continue swimming to safety.
2️⃣ Efficiency & Predictable Results 🕒
Lessons that take months or years to get your child to safety and competence leave them vulnerable in a critical time in their life when they’re at the highest risk of drowning.
Safe swim lessons should be able to get your child from beginner to a competent swimmer in a matter of weeks.
3️⃣ Real-Life Practice 👖👚
Will your child be able to practice in their clothes?
It might sound odd, but it’s critical. Accidents don’t wait until your child has their suit and goggles on. In fact, the majority of childhood drownings happen during times when children aren’t meant to be swimming.
A quality swim program includes practice in everyday clothing and simulated scenarios, ensuring your child is prepared for unexpected falls into water.
4️⃣ Tailored Curriculum 👶👧🧒
Every child is unique. The best swim lessons are those that are specifically designed for your child’s age and developmental stage, offering personalized attention and pacing that encourages steady, comfortable progress.
📌 Final Thought:
Choosing the right swim school means looking beyond just the pool. Your swim instructor should make sure you understand how swim lessons fit into a layered approach to drowning prevention.

Beautifully put by our wise sisters down in Charleston 🪻🧡
Our children are capable of incredible things, but sometimes tears are part of the process.
It is very scary to hand your baby to someone you don't know AND you know this "stranger" is going to put your child under the water. Your feelings are VALID and so are your child's. I will always validate you both.
1️⃣ The first thing I want you to know is that when I have your child in my hands, I consider them mine, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
I, too, am a parent and I have been where you are. I don’t take your trust in me lightly.
2️⃣ The next thing I want you to know is that your child is safe.
I am trained to teach your child these skills. Over the course of the next few weeks, your anxiety will lessen as you see your child's trust in me increase.
There’s a reason these lessons are short. I don’t want to overwhelm your baby.
We work one tiny piece at a time.
Each lesson builds upon the one before it and measurable progress is seen every day.
If your child is crying, you’ll notice the cry change as the course progresses, going from fearful to complaining/defiant.
I often compare these lessons to a child's car seat. Some children fight HARD to avoid being strapped into their car seat. It is exhausting for everyone!
But we do it every time - because it might be the only thing that keeps them alive.
3️⃣ The last thing I want you to know is that this phase will pass.
Often, at the end of their session, they love swimming so much that we can’t get them out of the water!
In the meantime, let’s work together to support your little one!
⭐️ Give them smiles and words of encouragement.
⭐️ When they get out of the water, wrap them in their towel with a great big, “YOU DID IT!”
⭐️ Watch from out of sight if you need to, but don’t apologize to your child for giving them skills that could save their life.
You’re giving them the gift of survival swimming!
