Membership now open all levels of golfer considered. Brief History
1895 - 2009

Affiliation was made to the golfing Union of Ireland GUI in 1905 under the Captaincy of Mr R Hampton,B.A Head Master of Preston House. The first site of the Club was probably on "The Island" between the Portlaoise and Ballyroan Roads.It is not known when the club moved to Ballymullen, but what is certain is,that the Club and its Links were based in Ballymullen in the years just prior to 1920. (Abbeyleix Golf Club was one of the only two Golf Clubs in existance in Laois, the other being Portarlington.Geen fees were charged at 2/- (10p) per day.) In 1921 the Club moved out to Heywood, Ballinakill. Laois. In 1927 the Club moved to Rathmoyle, Abbeyleix. On 23rd Sep 1930 the Ladies were affiliated to the ILGU. In 1932 the Club returned to Ballymullen. In October 1934 it was decided to use Rathmoyle as a winter Links ( From the 1st November 1934 to 1st May 1935)

In 1937 the Golf Club was closed. The Club was re-established on 28th May 1948 at Rathmoyle Abbeyleix. In June 1949 the Club was registered as a licenced premises for the sale of intoxicating liquor. Abbeyleix Golf Club was established as an 18 Hole Golf Course 17th September 2000 ( Patrick Murphy GUI officialy opened the Golf Course)

Presentation Night at Abbeyleix Golf Club.

A great evening in the clubhouse as we presented prizes to our recent competition winners. Congratulations to every one of the prize winners on some excellent scoring, and thank you to all who came along to mark the occasion.

Plenty still to play for before the season is out. The Expert Laois Open has two rounds remaining, with €100 for the weekly winner and a place in the Grand Final on September 27 where €500 awaits the winner.

The Junior Captain’s Prize playing tomorrow.

One of the highlights of the junior calendar at Abbeyleix Golf Club, and a great day out for our young golfers.

Parents and Players, please note: to be eligible for the Captain’s Prize, a junior player must have played in two junior competitions this season.

The Expert Laois Open and the September Medal both play Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Abbeyleix.

The Expert Laois Open is open to all golfers, with €100 for the weekly winner and a place in the Grand Final, where €500 awaits.

The Morrissey's Cup Final.

Abbeyleix Golf Club was delighted to host the final of the Morrissey's Cup, played in association with Morrissey’s Pub Abbeyleix.

Clonmel and Tullamore contested a fine final, with Clonmel taking an unassailable three match lead before the remaining two matches were called in. Both sides played excellent golf throughout the competition and did their clubs proud on the day.

Congratulations to Clonmel on the win, and our thanks to Morrissey's Pub for their continued support of this competition and of the club.
