END OF SEASON DINNER

What can I say only.... wow....what an evening we had!

I'm sure it was a massive effort to arrange everything, and well done to Michelle, Shirley, and Arthur. Attention to detail throughout.
Thank you to Papa Noni's for allowing us to take over your place for the evening and for the wonderful food.

It was great to have a large happy gang of players and families breaking bread together and really in no rush to part company.

Thank you to Captain Abigail and Vice Captain Emily and all the team on and off the pitch for making it a great season and clinching the Leinster Div 6 League Win.

To those players moving on to Senior hockey, we will be tracking your every play next season and beyond and we hope that you will keep in touch with our Inter group.

To everyone else, have a great summer, recharge those batteries, and see you all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in September!

Sunday 16th April 2023 is the last day that we will be assembling on a pitch as Abbeyleix Hockey Club.

It's with great excitement that Abbeyleix HC and Portlaoise Ladies HC will amalgamate this Summer into one new club called LAOIS HOCKEY CLUB, the new club will have all of the great club community spirit from AHC and PLHC and will now cater for every age, every gender and every skill level of player from 6 to 106!

Today was the Annual Club & Coffee Morning, a great opportunity to have all age groups and families in the one place to have coffee/tea & chat and reminisce about the season as it draws to a close.

It was great to see the older players getting to know the younger players and for the younger players to see the older players in action.

As a coach, it was great to see the next crop of coaches, volunteers, and players moving up through the ranks and the club getting stronger and stronger each year.

Abbeyleix Hockey Club’s intermediate girls team landed a first Leinster League Divisional title for the club recently. Congrats to all involved!

Social hockey returns next Tuesday, 18th April for men and women from 16 and over. Guaranteed fun, fitness and laughter for all abilities.

When: Every Tuesday evening beginning 18th April until May 23rd, 7-8pm.

Where: Portlaoise Leisure Centre- Pitches B & C

Cost: €5 per session or €20 for all 6. €3 per session for students/ unemployed or €15 for all 6 sessions.

Sticks will be provided if players don't have any, however players are asked to bring their own gumshields and shinguards.

🏑 Abbeyleix HC Inter Girls were silver medalists last season, so the pressure was on to go one step further this year to bring home the gold. The 2022-2023 Leinster League Division 6 has been a huge success for the girls with a perfect clean sheet after 10 fixtures. One of the foundation stones of this year's success is the absolute commitment shown by parents and players to travel to all fixtures all over the length and breadth of Leinster. Thank you all so much for making the effort. ••• Spring was in the air yesterday as AHC and Suttonians players lined out on the pitch for the final in Loreto Kilkenny. It was a nail-bitingly tense first half, with a 0-0 score at the break. Suttonians piled on the pressure after half time. The AHC defence and midfield stuck to their task. AHC left-forward Georgina stealthily scored midway through the second half AHC centre-forward Orla rocketed the ball into the backboard with about 5 minutes to go to seal the deal for AHC. 🏆 Suttonians fought hard all the way through and proved their pedigree and well-earned position as opponents in this year's final. Thank you all for a great game and for joining us for refreshments after the game. Overall, it was a fantastic sporting day out for two really nice groups of players. A big thank you to AHC Captain Abigail and Vice Captain Emily for their leadership all season and putting in two fantastic performances in the final. Thank you to the AHC parents for putting on such a lovely spread of food and to our umpires for really bringing a sense of occasion to the event. We have one last horah on the 16th of April as our fun Club Morning will be held in Portlaoise Leisure Centre Astro. AHC are so proud of our fantastic Inter panel and League winners for 2022- 2023; Alex Abbie Abigail Aoife Ellen Emily Esmée Georgina Hannah Lily Meabh Penny Ruth Una Orla Faye Poppy Leanne Well done all. ❤️🖤

Abbeyleix 1st Year Girls battled hard yesterday in their League Final against Portrane in Loreto Kilkenny.

The result didn't go the way of the AHC girls on the day (Portrane won 2-0), but AHC did come away with a silver medal after a long and successful season overall.

The club are so proud of you all and well done to each and everyone of you.
