Our U13 boys lost 4-3 to Edenderry today in Fr Breen Park.

We just had the bare bones of our team with 12 lads available, that meant only 1 sub , a short time into the first half we lost Ruairi O Connor to a nasty hand injury, so we were down to 0 subs and playing into a strong breeze.

We lost first half 0-2 , and won second half 3-2, our boys showed plenty of fight and ability, and can take great heart in how they fought there way back into the game.

Overall a great game for both sides and very proud of the Lads.

We wish Ruairi a speedy recovery from his injury today.

Sorry no photo.

Our U11 Girls greeted Mullingar Ath Swans on this lovely dry sunny morning.

Abbeyleix had a very strong first half, they made some lovely passes, looking for each other and moving the ball.

The second half was a much more even game with both teams securing goals.

Thanks to Mullingar for travelling.

Our squad today was Amelia L, Lucy D, Ciara B, Caoimhe S, Alba M, Amelia H, Rose F, Muireann K & Kacie McN.

Our fabulous under 10 girls finished up their season with a final match against Frankfort.

The girls put in a great first half performance with Nessa B, Molly B, Ella M and Riley putting in a great defensive shift to ensure we had a clean sheet at half time. Ava M, Meabh R, Aoibhe LG and Chloe O’B put in hard working shifts but unfortunately we couldn’t breach the Frankfort rearguard.

The second half was a harder affair as Frankfort created more chances. Ellen O’S, Kinsey, Katie K, Molly K, Katie M and Leah D all put in great efforts to prevent Frankfort from creating chances.

Ultimately, Frankfort went onto win the game but it was an enjoyable game.

Captain today was Chloe O’B

Players of the match were Nessa Jane B and Molly B

After the game, Mick and Eleanor presented medals and goodies to the girls.

A huge thanks to Ann Marie, Brian and head coach Eleanor for their hard work with the girls.

Thanks to all the parents for their support and thanks to our executive committee for all their hard work in the background to ensure our girls can play.

Finally thanks to all the girls, we want to create a positive pathway for these girls to play soccer in the future. They have been a pleasure to coach.

Our U11 Girls made their 3rd away trip in 7 days today to play Temple Villa. We expected a stiff contest and that’s what we got but our girls did not dissappoint. It was end to end for the whole 50 minutes of play.

All the scores coming in the first half. Temple Villa were first to get on the score sheet with a very unfortunate mishap which seen the ball roll into the net. From there Temple Villa secured another three goals but before the half time whistle Abbeyleix get some lovely passes to see the ball worked all the way from the backs to rattle the back of the home net.

Great game and lovely to see the progress our girls have made.

Good luck to Temple Villa in their Cup Final.

Will have to make sure of team photos before the match’s, playgrounds are a strong attraction as soon as the final whistle goes.

Our U13 boys hosted Portlaoise town this morning at Fr Breen park, in the Europa league competition.

Perfect conditions for the game, which started out at a high and very competitive pace.

Remaining like so for all the first half, but we managed to sn**ch a goal right at the final moments of the first half through the left boot of Ruairi O’C, a brilliant strike and we were 1-0 up at halftime.

Second half kicks off and we hit the ground running, and Ruairi hits the net again and a few moments later Lucas L strikes one from inside the centre circle that goes in over the goalkeepers head.

All of a sudden we were comfortably ahead and the intensity dropped from the game a little.

Our lads however kept looking for goals, Ruairi completed his hat trick, Byron F also knocked one in from a brilliant assist by Tristan O’B and John C completed the scoring with the final goal.

Our defence deserves a mention too in keeping Portlaoise scoreless especially when the game was in the melting pot,

Final scoreline flatters us a bit.

A great team performance overall.

Player of the watch was Ruairi with a great hat trick.

Very proud of these 4 lads. Represented their families and their club with skill, hard work and determination with every match they played in Blackpool helping their squad to a strong quarter final and semi final finish.

Keep up the good work lads.

Our U11 Girls met Birr Tn FC in Frank O’Connell Pk this afternoon on what was one of the wettest days they’ve played on this year. The rain was biblical but it somehow seemed to spur them on in the first half.

There was lovely passes executed and going into half time the away team had found the oppositions net 3 times against the home team’s one net rattler.

A half time break didn’t do us any favours, the home team came out fighting and got straight into scoring, bringing the game to a tie.

The rain didn’t let up but our girls found their momentum again and at the final whistle came out on the winning end.

Thank you to Birr for having us.

Our under 13 boys made the trek to Hodson Bay to play Hodson Bay in round 3 of the Europa league.

This was a great game between two evenly matched sides. Hodson bay played a good brand of soccer and opened up our defence a few times at the start of the match but thanks to some good defensive interventions from Renee D, Robbie M, Ruairi O’C, and Frankie C, we never looked like conceding.

We started to make chances with some good direct passing from Ruairi, Tristan and Lucas and with the ever dangerous Tadhg B and Omar A finding gaps in the defence with their skilful and direct running. Only for some good defending and goalkeeping from their keeper preventing us scoring from the chances we created. Evan F was proving a handful on his introduction and made some excellent runs

The sides were level at the break. In the second half, Hodson Bay started to get on top. Conor R and Sean C were outstanding in helping to alleviate the pressure with their tackling and running. Ross Mc and Charlie Mc working very well in restricting chances for Hodson Bay. Hodson took the lead from an unfortunate defensive mistake. A few minutes later a fortuitous break resulted in a second goal. It was very unfortunate but that is the way games go. Evan B, Tristan O’B and Lucas brought the fight to Hodson bay but we couldn’t find a goal.

Well done to Hodson Bay on a good win.

Hard luck to the boys and a huge thanks to our 3 under 12 players who were outstanding today Evan F, Evan B and Conor R.

Men of the match was Conor R and Renee D who both had great matches but all 14 boys did well. We were missing 8 players today so a lot of credit goes to the team today.
