It was a busy and rewarding weekend for Kilcolman Rovers, with teams from U10 to U19 delivering spirited displays across a series of competitive fixtures.

Friday Night Football

Kilcolman’s U11 girls produced a fantastic display in their second league outing of the season against a strong Rathkeale side. Despite early pressure, the Kilcolman defence stood firm, denying multiple goal-scoring opportunities. Persistent work from midfield and a determined forward line saw Kilcolman create several chances of their own, but Rathkeale held strong. It was a resilient and encouraging team effort from the young squad.

Saturday’s Action

The U10s kicked off the weekend with an excellent performance against St. Itas. The young players showed great skill and teamwork throughout a series of competitive games, impressing coaches and supporters alike.

U14 Boys Shine in National Trophy
The standout result of the weekend came from the Kilcolman Rovers U14 boys, who travelled to Mungret Regional B for Round 3 of the SFAI Subway National Trophy and returned with an impressive 4–0 victory.
A sensational long-range free kick from Conor H opened the scoring, before Darragh doubled the lead with a well-taken header just before half-time. Conor added his second with a powerful header early in the second half, and Darragh rounded off the scoring with a superb finish following a perfectly weighted through ball from Lincoln.
Strong performances were seen throughout the squad, including substitutes who brought fresh energy late on. It was a commanding display built on teamwork, composure and hard work, sending Kilcolman confidently into the next round.

Sunday Evening

U19 Ladies Battle to Earn First Point
The Kilcolman U19 Ladies earned their first point of the season in a dramatic 1–1 draw with Askeaton on Sunday evening. In a physical and hard-fought contest, Kilcolman looked set for victory after taking the lead midway through the second half. But in the final seconds Askeaton struck an equaliser to sn**ch a share of the spoils.
Despite the disappointment, the Kilcolman players showed tremendous spirit and determination throughout. The club also sends best wishes to Amy for a speedy recovery following a wrist injury sustained during the game.

A Weekend of Pride for the Club
Across all age groups, Kilcolman Rovers showcased strong teamwork, commitment and skill. Well done to all players, and thanks to the parents and supporters who continue to cheer them on.

Our U11 girls welcomed Broadford to Ardagh this morning for what was, for many, their first experience playing 9v9 on the bigger pitch and under full rules, including offside!

From the first whistle, Broadford applied strong pressure and showed great intent going forward. However, Kilcolman stood firm, working tirelessly to close down every attack and showing real determination in defence. When in possession, the girls drove forward with confidence, linking up well and creating some great attacking oppertunities.

It was fantastic to see how quickly the team adapted to the new format, with loads of teamwork, good communication, and endless effort on display throughout the match. Every player played their part, showing great attitude.

The future looks bright for this talented group, well done to all the girls and thanks to all the supporters.

St. Itas drew first blood midway through the first half, punishing a defensive mix-up to take a 1–0 lead. It was a brief moment of concern for Kilcolman, but it only seemed to light the fire within them. The response was swift and emphatic.

Kilcolman Rovers U13 Boys vs Lough Derg A
SFAI Subway National Trophy – Round 2

Kilcolman Rovers U13 boys put in a heroic performance at home this afternoon to claim a hard-fought 3–2 victory over a strong and well-established Lough Derg A side in the SFAI Subway National Trophy Round 2. Despite being down several players and lining out with just 12, the boys showed immense determination, teamwork, and spirit to book their place in the next round.
Both teams started brightly in tricky, soft conditions following a week of heavy rain. Lough Derg opened the scoring inside the first ten minutes after a tidy passage of play, but Kilcolman responded superbly. Jonah won the ball back in defence and passed it out wide to Clive, who played a clever ball to Darragh. Controlling it beautifully, Darragh turned and unleashed a rocket of a shot from distance to level the game at 1–1, sparking life and confidence back into the Kilcolman side.
Moments later, Darragh was again involved — this time winning the ball in midfield and threading a lovely through pass to Kyrylo. Showing great composure, Kyrylo weaved past two defenders before finishing clinically to give Kilcolman a 2–1 lead. The boys were now playing with belief, keeping the pressure high up the pitch and linking up brilliantly across all areas.
In the 20th minute, Kilcolman were awarded a corner. Darragh swung in a dangerous ball that Lough Derg managed to clear, but only as far as Michael, who struck it on the volley from around 25 yards out. The shot was unstoppable — hit with power and precision — flying into the back of the net to make it 3–1 at halftime.
The second half demanded everything from the boys, as Lough Derg came out strong with fresh legs from their larger panel. Kilcolman, with only one substitute, had to dig deep. Every player worked tirelessly, chasing every ball and throwing themselves into tackles to protect their lead. Despite their valiant defending, Lough Derg pulled one back from the penalty spot midway through the half to make it 3–2, setting up a tense finish.
In the closing minutes, Kilcolman were unlucky not to extend their lead, but the final whistle brought huge cheers — a massive 3–2 win for the home side after an incredible all-round team effort.
Denis had a fantastic game in goal, pulling off several crucial saves to keep Kilcolman ahead. In defence, Conor and Jonah were rock-solid, with John and Colm also putting in excellent performances to deny Lough Derg space. The midfield worked tirelessly — Michael, Darragh, Kyrylo, Aidan, Clive, and Joseph covered every inch of the pitch, linking defence and attack superbly. Up front, Dean led the line brilliantly, running his socks off and coming close on several occasions.

A massive well done to every single player for their commitment and teamwork today. The coaches and supporters are immensely proud of the boys — a brilliant team effort and a well-deserved win.

Thanks to referee A. Meehan for officiating the game.

Another great win for the Kilcolman U12 Girls, who travelled to Clarina today to take on Breska in the U12 Girls Cup Preliminary Round 1.

Kilcolman maintained excellent shape throughout the game, staying strong defensively and counterattacking with great energy. Our forwards, Maya and Robyn, applied constant pressure on the Breska defence, while midfielders Eva, Clodagh, and April covered acres of ground, working tirelessly from box to box.

At the back, defenders Rose, Emma, and Ellen were rock-solid, giving the entire team confidence to push forward. Kilcolman enjoyed more possession overall and were rewarded with three well-deserved goals — all superbly taken by Maya.

Orlaith Geoghegan took on goalkeeping duties and played her part confidently whenever called upon. In the second half, Mia and Niamh came on and slotted in seamlessly, showing great work rate and clever ball control.

A 0–3 away win is always a fantastic result, and once again the girls showed tremendous teamwork and spirit. While there’s always room to improve, today’s performance was full of promise and determination.

Well done girls, and thanks as always to our wonderful supporters!

Shountrade 2–2 Kilcolman Rovers
U14 Girls
Saturday, 18 October 2025

Well done to the Kilcolman Rovers U14 girls for their resilience in a tough match against Shountrade!

The game took a bit of time for the girls to settle into, but their hard work was evident from the start. The match was evenly contested, with Shountrade applying pressure early on. Despite that, Kilcolman grew into the game, and the breakthrough came when Holly seized her opportunity, finishing smartly to put Kilcolman 1–0 ahead.

As the first half wore on, Shountrade continued to push and managed to grab an equaliser before the break, sending the sides in level at 1–1.

In the second half, Kilcolman pushed hard for another goal, creating several good chances. Lia, making a fantastic run, struck superbly to put Kilcolman back in front at 2–1. With fatigue setting in as the match drew to a close, Shountrade launched a late attack, and despite Kilcolman’s best defensive efforts, their striker lobbed the ball home for their second goal, leaving the final score at 2–2.

It was a performance full of effort, skill, and determination from the Kilcolman girls — great soccer from both sides and another well-earned point on the table.

Special thanks went to the U12 players — Clodagh, Orlaith, Sarah, and Emma — who stepped up to help despite having played their own challenging match earlier in the day. Gratitude also went to the girls who took part in the camogie development hubs in UL, Limerick (Freya, Katie, Fiona, Lia, and Robyn) for coming straight from that commitment to play.

Moments like this highlighted the strength of the club, with everyone rallying to support one another. A huge thank-you also went to all the parents for travelling and for their continuous support on the sideline ⚽️👏🏻

Team: Ellen, Sarah, Clodagh, Emma M, Leah, Grace, Orlaith, Emma C, Holly, Robyn, Lia, Freya, Fiona & Katie.

Keep up the great work, girls! 👏🏻

SFAI Subway National Cup – Round 2
Sixmilebridge, Saturday 18 October 2025

The Kilcolman Rovers U13 boys made the journey to Sixmilebridge on Saturday afternoon for a 2pm kick-off in Round 2 of the SFAI Subway National Cup. Conditions were extremely difficult, with heavy rain and a strong swirling wind making it a real test for both teams.

Kilcolman played into a strong wind in the first half, which made it tough to get the ball forward, and Bridge United took advantage by scoring an early goal.

The boys were up against a very high-quality side and were missing a few players, but every one of them gave it absolutely everything. Denis was solid between the posts, pulling off some fine saves, and the back line of Conor, John, Colm, and Thomas worked tirelessly, putting in countless tackles and clearances to keep the team in the game.

In midfield, Clive, Jonah, Michael, Dean, and Alex battled hard all afternoon, trying to break down a very organised Bridge side and always looking to get Kilcolman on the attack. Up front, Darragh ran his socks off, constantly pressing and chasing every ball, and dropping back to defend when needed.

Before half-time, Bridge added to their lead, taking the game further from Kilcolman’s reach, but although the result didn’t go their way, the boys never dropped their heads. They showed fantastic character and that never-give-up Kilcolman spirit right up to the final whistle.

The substitutes — Narabone, Aidan, and Joseph — all played their part, bringing fresh energy and effort when called upon and supporting their teammates from start to finish.

A big thank-you went to Bridge United for their warm hospitality after the game — the tea and treats were very much appreciated. They were a lovely bunch of lads and coaches, and Kilcolman wished them every success in the rest of the competition.

Although the result wasn’t in Kilcolman’s favour, the effort, attitude, and heart shown by the boys made everyone at the club proud. Onwards and upwards — there were plenty of positives to take from the performance!

Kilcolman U12 Girls Earn Deserved Draw Against League Leaders Dromore Utd
Kilcolman Rovers 1–1 Dromore United
Ardagh, Saturday 18 October 2025

The Kilcolman U12 Girls welcomed top-of-the-table Dromore United to a wet Ardagh on Saturday morning. Dromore came as league leaders for a reason, and the team expected nothing less than a tough game.
The first half ebbed and flowed, with both sides evenly matched, but Kilcolman created more chances and looked the more likely to score. However, Dromore capitalised on a defensive mistake and went in a goal ahead at half-time.
In the second half, Kilcolman dominated possession, applying huge pressure while remaining calm on the ball. The defence was tested a few times but never looked like breaking, and Sarah looked confident in goal throughout.
The midfield were outstanding — not just for their work rate but also for the intelligence they showed both with and without the ball. The forwards were relentless, constantly showing for every ball and testing Dromore over and over again.
Eventually, all the hard work paid off when a cleverly worked move found Maya on the right wing, who finished superbly from an acute angle to make it 1–1.
The game finished 1–1 — a well-deserved point for Kilcolman after a disciplined and determined display. This was only the second league game of the season, and already the girls were showing great improvement.
The team had six fantastic substitutes on the day, all of whom will play their part in many games ahead.
A big thank you went to all the parents for their continued support.
