The 2016 Race Around Ireland is going Retro as the four-man team of Aidan Fitton, Niall Morris, Dave Hickey and Mick McCarthy take on the 2,150km route in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland. The race kicks off from Trim on 28th August and the team has 96 hours to travel the coastline of Ireland to get back to Moynalty in County Meath in time. Folks, the hard work is done and muscles and sleep patterns are slooooowly getting back to normal. Now, if we can just kick the "on the road" junk food habit!
What we do now is make sure that all of our hard work and your generosity goes to benefit Down Syndrome Ireland so we're going to start collecting all the donations and sponsorship pledged. Bad photographer but a great moment. Paddy and Pat Fitton came out at 4am to cheer Aidan on as he passed hometown Ballincollig in Cork yesterday.
Paddy has reportedly been on "dot watch" since the Race started and hadn't been able to sleep since it started 😀
Pat and Paddy, whatever you said to Aidan certainly worked! It was a big boost and gave him a shot of energy as he flew the next leg of the journey which included the dreaded Patrick's Hill. No bother to him, sure wasn't he on home soil!
The Ratoath Wheelers car is now known the length and breadth of the land. Every time we passed a cyclist, team car, support vehicle, race official, supporter, cow, cat, dog and sheep the beeping could be heard!
It sure lasted the three days Peter!
It was great to have the car so huge thanks to the Ratoath Wheelers cycling club for all of their support throughout the Race and good to see familiar faces at the finish line!
