Subs: Anna Shine, Shannon Parbat, Eve O'Sullivan, Emma Costello and Maura Shine
Goals: Gillian Keenan.
Saturday evening saw a clash from the bottom of the WNL table between Athlone Town and Treaty United.
The first opportunity of the game fell to Muireann Devaney after 1 min on the clock only for her to see her early effort sail wide of the Treaty goal.
After 7 mins Fiona Owens played a long ball over the Treaty defence for the on-rushing Roisin Molly. Treaty captain and goalkeeper Michaela Mitchell raced off her line and in the process took Molloy out of the game in what looked like a certain penalty and red card for the visitors. The referee saw things different and gave Michaela the benefit of the doubt, as Treaty had players rushing back to cover the empty goals and showed her a yellow card instead.
Athlone were pushing forward looking for the gameโs opening goal, Shauna Peare and Molloy put some good crosses into the opposition box but with no players running on the end of them.
After 15 mins Treaty had their first sight of goals when Jenna Slattery seen her shot from 25 yards out sail over the Athlone cross bar.
Athlone had a throw deep inside the Treaty half, from the resulting throw Treaty hit Athlone on the counterattack and were very unlucky not to have taken the lead with 24 mins gone. Treatyโs Esra Kangal squared the ball from the right-hand side of the Athlone box to Jenna Slattery who was standing on the back post unmarked. Slattery put the ball into the Athlone net only for the ref to give a free out. Slattery used her hand to control the ball before tucking it away.
Athlone were getting the best of the exchanges with Devaney causing the opposition all sorts of problems with her runs from midfield.
The breakthrough came in the 37th mins. When Devaney took possession of the ball 30 yards out and ran at the Treaty defence leaving players in her wake. As Devaney was about to shoot, she was taken down by Jesse Mendez, who left the ref no choice but to award the spot kick. Emily Corbett stepped up and hit a thunder bolt right down the middle of the goals and into the back of the net to give Athlone a much-deserved lead going in at half time.
Treaty came out for the 2nd half all guns blazing and were winning their battles all over the pitch.
The home side shouldโve wrapped the game up in the 49th min when Athlone Town captain Laurie Ryan went on a mazey run right through the heart of the Treaty defence. With only Mitchell to beat in the 6-yard box Ryan opted to pass the ball to Corbett, when it looked like shooting was a better option. Mitchell reacted quickest and saved what looked like a certain goal. This gave the opposition belief and they started to push forward more looking for the equalizer.
Just short of the hour mark Treaty found themselves level. Treatyโs Gillian Keenan found herself on the end of a through ball in a foot race with Ownes. Keenan got the better of the defender and saw her shot resting in the back of her hometown club.
Athlone made changes with the introduction of Aife Haran, Kellie Brennan and ex Treaty United player Laoise ร hAodha. It was these players combined to give Athlone a 2 โ 1 lead. With great link up play from Brennan she laid the ball off to Haran on the wing, who whipped in a peach of a cross for ร hAodha to have the last laugh against her hometown and ex-teammates with a super first touch finish from inside the 6 yards box to score her first senior goal in the WNL.
Athlone thought they had 3 points in the back when man of the match Jessica Hennessy played a first-time ball in to Brennan.
Brennan rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the net but her celebration was short lived, and she was flagged for off-side.
Athlone held on for a 2 โ 1 with Treaty throwing everything at them in the dying moments of the game.
Man-Of-The-Match was Jessica Hennessy playing in the heart of the Athlone defense in only her 2nd start of the season.
Devaney and Ryan were a close second with their tireless running and never stay stop attitude from midfield.
Athlone are away to Wexford Youths next weekend in the cup.

We would like to wish Katelyn Keogh all the best as she heads to Nashville Tennessee.

Katelyn has been at the club for the last five years playing U15 and up in the MSL and then taking her place in the U17 and later the U19's and Senior Women's National League teams.
She epitomised everything you would want in a player giving it all both on the training pitch as well as in competitive games and was always willing to help out with the younger teams and indeed was involved in coaching the Summer Camps over the last few years.
She will be missed, not just for her skill, dedication and determination, but also for her constant smile and sense of humour.
Best of Luck Katelyn !!

A few pictures form our game last night against Galway. Thanks to Bernie O'Farrell as always for the photos.
Galway left Athlone Town Stadium last night with all 3 points in a 2-1 victory in the Womenโs National League.
Tommy Hewitt made just one change coming into this mid-week fixture. Kellie Brennan got the nod after scoring Athloneโs equalising goal against DLR Waves on Saturday when she featured as a substitute.
The Tribeswomen went close in the tenth minute when Chloe Singleton met a Julie-Ann Russell corner-kick with her boot with Abbiegayle Ronayne well positioned to block down the shot. The rebound fell to Becky Walsh who couldnโt keep her shot down and fired over from inside the box.
Athlone didnโt create much on the attacking front in the first half but Kelsey Munroe caused a scare in the Galway box with 17 minutes gone when she placed a long ball into the box from her own half, right in between Kellie Brennan and, goalkeeper, Hannah Walsh but Savannah McCarthy was just about in position to be able to race across the box and nod the ball into the safety of Walshโs grateful hands.
Galway went in front in spectacular fashion with 21 minutes gone when Nicole McNamara played a perfect high ball just over the top of the Athlone defence and managing to play in Singleton on the right side of the box. The midfielder struck her shot beautifully leaving Ronayne no chance as the ball rattled the top left corner of the goal.
Lynsey McKey came close to doubling the lead in bizarre fashion on the half hour mark with a cross turned shot from the end-line on the right flank. The ball went high and looped over the Townโs โkeeper before falling and dinging the left post and away from goal.
Galway had an early chance just after the re-start with Russell playing a through ball to the onrushing McKey who took the ball deep into the box before rattling off a shot and forcing a quick reaction save from Ronayne.
The home side were level just before the hour mark when half-time substitute Lucy Jane Grant stood over a long-range free kick to the right of the box. In only her 2nd game as a senior player Lucy struck a stunning shot right into the top corner leaving Walsh no chance to make a save.
Kellie Brennan came close to nudging Athlone into the lead ten minutes later after an excellent cross from Roisin Molloy found the forward deep inside the box. Brennan took aim on the volley, but Walsh was able to make a good save at her near post to deny the home side the lead.
It looked like it would be a share of the points for the teams as the game wore on but the Tribeswomen had one final chance in the last five minutes from a corner-kick with McKey sending the ball deep into the box for the visitors on this occasion.
Anna Fahey was there to meet the ball in a crowded box with a textbook header into the bottom corner for her first ever senior Womenโs National League goal and the three points for her team.
