Black Belt
In many ways, the black karate belt symbolizes the end. The darkness that exists after a sun has set and a plant has been harvested. The student who has completed their transformation from unknowing and unskilled white belt into a mature and wise black belt. As with any journey, though, the end is only the beginning of something new. As many karateka will tell you, your martial arts evolution truly begins when you earn your black belt. While it does signify your mastery of karate fundamentals it also, more importantly, represents that you are ready to share what you’ve learned with others and continue to grow and seek both skill and enlightenment from your training.
Achievement of rank should be considered as a side effect of karate training and it should not be taken as a key goal. The key goal must be personal development and growth at whatsoever rank level you attain.
KARATE GI
The white Gi represents the following.
• Purity: Living a clean life and trying to be your
best for yourself and family.
• Avoidance of ego: Keeping the beginner
mindset of white belt and white Gi vastly
important.
• Simplicity and social class: The white Gi is
simple, the uniformity brings ALL together
regardless of who they are or their status.
The Gi is tradition…
The Gi is for realism…
The Gi is our armor and represents the history of our art!
Congratulations to Sherah, Jonathan, John and Elizabeth who got recertified this evening in Tiida Ryu Ireland

THE DOJO
The dojo is the place where courage is fostered and superior human nature is bred through the ecstasy of sweating in hard work. It is the sacred place where the human spirit is polished. Shoshin Nagamine ( 1907 - 1997 )
The precepts of Tiida-ryū represent both guidelines and goals. They are intended to light the way and provide inspiration for improvement.
1. Be tolerant, courteous, and warmly hospitable towards others while being strict in one’s own manners, etiquette and propriety.
2. Have good form by purity or cleanliness of our surroundings, home, and dojo. Maintain pure and beautiful relationships with others, enjoying unobstructed flow and harmony.
3. Strive for honesty, integrity, commitment, sincerity, and dignity in one’s practice of technique and kata until it penetrates the heart. Karate’s true value lies within the heart and modesty of mind.
4. Match words with deeds, have no regrets, and remove doubt. The goal and the way must be on the same level. Life and light must not quarrel; behavior must not betray belief. The front of one’s character (what is shown to the world) should match the back (that which is private or internal). All of this will bring confidence and supernatural abilities in stamina, timing, and decision making. A person of wisdom and virtue is not of two minds. By merging the self in a way of orderliness and harmony, one’s sincerity discerns from a dimension beyond indecisiveness and benefits the whole.
5. Be gentle in the arts and strong in spirit. Stand apart from winning or defeating another, as this only creates self-destruction. Develop a heart that wishes for peace, rather than seeking out conflict, using only defensive movements that do not offend nature.
6. Live a long life while maintaining good health (Jukō Ryozen). Spend time doing something meaningful, trying always to improve day by day, degree by degree. The fist that brings life energy (Ikken Furō), the balancing structure of kata, and devotion to life’s meaning (ikigai), all support longevity.
7. Maintain the habit of kata repetition. This provides self-renewal through the flow and rhythm of body movement in a play of continuity, like the seasons following each other endlessly.
8. Strive to be junzi (kunshi). One who is junzi harmonizes and
cooperates with society, considering many interests at once. Yet, one who is junzi avoids the shallow trends of society and stands apart, making unpopular decisions when needed.
9. Maintain a moderate habit of meditation (Zazen), knowing the true purpose is interconnection with the heart of one’s teacher. Gently discipline the mind, taking the focus off concrete actions and worries of the day, allowing for expansion, freedom, and interconnection.
