This Saturday, our *U16 Girls and Minor Boys* are taking on the challenge of climbing Croagh Patrick in support of Athlone GAA’s Movie Awards and The Commitments! 🎬🎶

From Athlone GAA to The Traitors Ireland! 👀

Great to see former Athlone GAA player Sam Omokoro taking on a very different challenge on The Traitors Ireland!

Sam played all his underage football with Athlone, winning plenty of Division 1 medals along the way. He was a vital part of a very successful team managed over the years by Davey Allen, Jim Rigney and Joe Fallon

It’s always great to see one of our own doing well and taking on new challenges.

What a brilliant day for our Athlone U11 Girls at the Kilmacud Crokes Festival! 🤍🩵🤍

We travelled with 23 girls across two teams, with both teams playing 5 games each against some fantastic opposition.

The girls really held their own throughout the day, putting in some great performances and showing brilliant determination, teamwork and skill. A special mention to our newer players who did absolutely fantastic and grew in confidence with every game. 👏

But the day was about much more than the football. There was great bonding, plenty of laughs, new experiences and lots of memories made together.
Days like this are brilliant for bringing the girls closer as a group and building that all-important team spirit. 🩵🤍🩵

A special thank you to our fantastic coaches Tara, Niamh, Kasha and Gillian, and to our head coach Fiachra, for all the time, encouragement and energy you give to the girls.

Well done to our Senior & Junior 1 teams & management who secured a championship quarter final place with two great wins.

Well done lads.

Hard luck to our Div 1 (pictured) & Div 5 U14 ladies who came up against two strong sides in Garrycastle & Clann Gaels Thursday evening. While the results didn’t go our way we have a bunch of resilient girls and they’ll bounce back stronger.

Our attention is now focused on the Quarter Final next Thursday against Cill Oige.
This is a big game for the girls & we’d love to see lots of Athlone support on the sidelines cheering them on. Please get behind them & give them the support they deserve on the night 🩵

🐇 U14s Pull a Rabbit Out of the Hat! 🩵🤍

Congratulations to our U14s, who secured a home county championship semi-final with a dramatic last-minute goal from Olly Nicholson against a gritty Rochfortbridge side in Páirc Chiaráin on Friday evening.

Playing against a deceptively strong breeze in the first half, Athlone found themselves trailing by three goals at the break. However, they took the game by the scruff of the neck after the restart, scoring two early goals to bring themselves right back into contention.

Athlone could never quite edge in front, and in fairness to Rochfortbridge, they continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over and maintain daylight between the teams.

The concession of a penalty with 15 minutes remaining suggested that it might not be Athlone’s day—but Kayden McCarthy had other ideas! He produced a magnificent save to keep the game in the melting pot.

The final five minutes were not for the faint-hearted. Even the scoreboard struggled to cope with the drama, with both teams reaching double figures in goals! Athlone created several chances as the pressure mounted, but the equalising score remained elusive.

Then up stepped Olly Nicholson.

After receiving a recycled ball from the hard-working Ian Benareck, Olly looked up from somewhere between the two arcs and courageously went for goal. In what felt like slow motion, the ball dropped below the crossbar and into the top corner of the net to win the game for Athlone forcing the scoreboard operator into early retirement and sending the ecstatic home crowd into jubilation!

There were excellent performances throughout the pitch. Kayden McCarthy’s penalty save was particularly memorable, as were the speed and work rate of James Henry and some superb scores from Olly Nicholson, Seamus Kilroy and James Purtill.

Well done to all the players and management on a fantastic resultand best of luck in the county semi-final.

Friday night live sessions🎶 🤍🩵

Tonight we are delighted to welcome *The Irwin Brothers* for some live music in our Clubhouse Bar, with pizza by *Hungry Bull Pizza*. 🍕 🎶

Our Junior Men are in Championship action vs Kinnegad at 8pm so should be a busy night down the club. 💪

We hope this will be the start of regular Friday night live music nights over the coming months
