The Thomastown Golf Society is set to celebrate its 30th anniversary on the weekend of September 19th, marking three decades of sporting fellowship and local heritage. The society’s journey began with its founder meeting in Connaughton’s Bar on June 19th, 1995, where the inaugural committee was elected: President Tommy Devine, Captain Michael Dolan, Secretary Eva Cunniffe, Treasurer Thomas Naughton, P.R.O. Maureen Griffin, and committee members Pat Kelly, P***e Naughton, Jimmy Revins, Jimmy Flynn, and Joe Goode. The official launch on July 30th, officiated by Senator Liam Naughton, (RIP)Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann, enjoyed a strong turnout and sunshine, setting a positive tone for years to come. With 68 active members today, the society welcomes all ages and has recently seen a growing number of younger players, who enjoy both golf and foot golf. Throughout its history, the Thomastown Golf Society has benefited greatly from the support of local sponsors, whose generosity has helped make tournaments, events, and development possible. As the anniversary weekend approaches, organizers extend heartfelt thanks to these sponsors and invite the community to join in celebrating the club’s proud legacy and bright future
The home of the society is at the Naughton Family’s Par 3 Golf Course in Thomastown the brainchild of the Late P***e Naughton and his wife Nancy, and now ran by Patrick, Nancy, Helen & family.
