Training Acceleration Qualities

Acceleration lives in the initial 20m. As a Gaelic footballer, I know those first steps can be the difference between winning the ball or watching it go.

Athletes can gain up to 50% of maximal speed in the initial 3 steps, which means the start position, the first push, and the first knee drive matter more than most athletes realise.

Where GPS data comes in
With we can track acceleration efforts across training and match play: monitoring the volume, intensity and direction of acceleration bouts. This tells us how quickly players can get in and out of max speed, and where the physical demand is actually falling in a game.you can use my code BRENDA15 for 15% off your pod!

A forgotten underpinning quality? Relative strength.
Athletes with higher relative strength can apply more force per kilogram of bodyweight into the ground. More force = faster acceleration. And the good news? Relative strength is something you can build away from the field year round, in the gym, through consistent, progressive strength work.

The gym work and the field work are not separate conversations.
