No longer running as a business Griesemount was built in 1817 by George Shackleton, a member of a famous Quaker family.

“Excellent, interesting, eccentric, charming and comfortable”

We were looking for a place to come back to after a wedding, the wedding venue suggested Griesemount. We were expecting something functional but what we found was remarkable. Griesemount was built in 1817 by the Shakleton family (of South Pole fame). Although it is very close to main roads and to Naas, when you drive up the driveway you feel like you’ve entered a world that runs at a different pace to the 21st century.
You enter a huge house, decorated with Regency era sketches, Vanity Fair cartoons from the 19th century, souvenirs and ornaments from the far east, a series of wonderful bookcases, antique furniture and huge bay windows that look onto streams and (quite impressive looking) ruins. The owners couldn’t have been any more friendly or agreeable, in fact we almost would have preferred to spend our day chatting with them, strolling around their garden or relaxing while drinking tea, reading books and imagining we were living about 100 years’ ago.
Carolynn and Robert have created a wonderful, unique home. I have every intention of going back for a weekend, I would recommend their house highly,

“Amazing corner of Ireland! Great 2-night stay for an event nearby.”
Reviewed July 24, 2013 NEW
Stayed with a few friends at Griesemount after traveling to Ireland from United States. The accommodations were terrific, cozy, convenient and beautiful, but the highest praise goes to Carolyn the house keeper.
Carolyn met us at the front door, showed us the house and spoke briefly about the area. She was always available for an advice, great breakfast or even help with cleaning a dress shirt :) The house was in great shape, tailored to every need we had. comfortable and clean rooms with beautiful views. BRING YOUR CAMERA, this area is amazing.
Griesemount made our visit to Ireland stress free and enjoyable, and I would recommend to anyone traveling to the area.
PS
2 black labs keen on playing fetch that live outside of the house provide great morning entertainment.
Room Tip: We stayed in the 2 bed room, but having seen the rest of the rooms, you can't go wrong there.

I have been a regular guest at Griesemount House over a period of five years and I cannot recommend the house highly enough. Carolyn and Robert are amazing hosts - warm, welcoming and friendly. Their level of service goes above and beyond what you might normally expect from a stay at a B & B and it always feels like a home from home for me. Choose Griesemount ! You won't be disappointed and I guarantee you'll be planning your next stay before you know it !
