Balbriggan Amenities for Sea Swimmers

An absolutely cracking day and a great opportunity to take a quick swim around our newly installed buoys


Water is crystal clear too.

A busy day for our volunteers yesterday - an early start to prepare the anchors for the new buoys and then returning at low tide to put the new buoys in place.

Thanks to everyone who gave some of their time to get this done.

Big thanks to Brian Creighton of Balbriggan Complete Cleaning for his advice and help and to Councillor Tony Murphy who was on hand to help and who has been very supportive of our project since we started.

Bit of help needed if anyone doing nothing tomorrow morning. Balbriggan Amenity for Sea Swimming are placing buoys on the front beach. Tomorrow morning 9am meeting to make solid concrete anchors and 4pm to place them in position when they're set and tide is out.

We took a trip to Howth this morning to purchase the new buoys.

Weather and tides permitting we hope to get them into the water soon.

Thanks again to everyone who has contributed to the fund for purchasing these. We'll need other supplies like chains to secure them etc so if you'd like to donate a few bob let us know.

As you're probably aware one of our buoys broke loose during the last spell of rough weather.

We hit the beach today with a metal detector and spades to try and locate the chain.

We eventually did locate it so we've installed a new buoy with the thermometer still intact.

We took one of our buoys out of the water yesterday as it had moved during rough weather.

It was left in the shelter but unfortunately when we came back to collect it it had disappeared.

If you see it around or if you know where it's ended up could you please let us know.

We were out early this morning for some essential maintenance on the buoys on the front beach.

A couple of them had moved during stormy conditions so we've removed one and repositioned another.
